There was an article in The Miami Herald a few days ago, which states that 2 out of every 3 people summoned for jury duty each year in South Florida, don't show up.
Jurors used to be chosen from voter registration databases, but the state in l998 switched to driver's license rolls as a way to widen the pool. Only 38% to 41% of potential jurors show up. Because of the high rate of "no shows", others are likely to get summoned more frequently because the jury pool list has to constantly be replenished.
It states that going after the "no-shows" is too costly and time-consuming, although it is against the law.
So, go figure......
