Unfortunately, some of these practices have been done for decades, if not centuries. For example, I was just reading yesterday, that although they want to clamp down on certain animals being consumed, they have authorized continuing bear bile farming, accepting the bile as a treatment for coronavirus, and just about everything else.  Bear bile farming is horrendous.  Bear bile cures nothing!

None of this will stop.  There are too many unfortunate reasons that this goes on, including magical thinking, to impact change. They will be back to business as usual, as soon as the dust settles from the virus. We will be left, to simply await the next event. Perhaps far worse than this one.

most of it is tied to an ignorant and cruel culture.

  look at the pollution that they live in and allow...   that and animal cruelty within the Asian  countries..... all tied to being Selfish and self serving.

No we are not perfect by any means... but we should always strive to do better and we do do better.

I watched a reality show over the summer called Below Deck and the yacht they were on was in Thailand.  They showed the crew often going on shore when they were on break and at one point went into an area that had a market that was similar to what you see in China.

I don't beilve @Oznell needs to put a warning of any kind ,  these wet markets have been discussed many , many times in the news for weeks now.   Besides there were no actual details or anything graphic that was posted at all.    So No no apology necessary as far as I'm concerned.  I certainly do not want to hear the details ,  but none were disclosed in the post .  I do certainly hope Dr Fauci can make sure we put an end to these horrible markets though not to even mention how now we are all paying for the sick practices.

Hey, thanks, @Kitty Galore .   Yeah, I didn't change anything in my post or original title--  apart from adding **Warning-- Sensitive Subject for Animal Lovers" to my original title "Recommendation from Dr. Fauci".

That way, sensitive animal lovers have the option of not reading.  I'm fine with Deree's suggestion of adding a warning--  I think we all are heart-broken when it comes to the animals.

i read an article recently, so gross and disgusting! the things they eat are just unreal! those need to be shutdown! said the big tubs  filled with bloody water  from the animals and the water goes out onto counters and floors!!!

That's easier said than done. Wet markets have been a tradition in China for centuries. Better for the Chinese government to enforce stricter hygiene codes for those places. China in general is a filthy country. Personal hygiene is deplorable. They have inadequate sewage and water treatment plants. In fact many areas of the country have none. Human & animal waste is everywhere. It is even used for fertilizer. What that country needs is a general massive cleanup, starting with the people themselves. It's no wonder almost every major epidemic has its origins in China.

@Buffalogal47  Well explained and you are correct!  These markets are all over the Asian countries, China, Vietnam, Thailand, SKorea, etc. Singapore banned slaughter of animals in wet markets early 90's.  Many orgs have been trying to stop the wild life trade used in wet markets and dog meat farms, etc.  Success has been made closing dog meat farms, rescuing, rehabing and homing the dogs and finding/funding new business for farmers.

@jubilant  NOT THIS particular Virus.   Corona Viruses have been aorund a Long time.  This one is new.

Could be that her dog was named Corona Virus in general why not?  BUT what the word MEANS is  Crown.  Thats where th Beer company got it.  That's why the sun halo during an eclipse is called a corona.  that's why they have Little crowns called Coronets.  It's not All because of this  acursed Virus.   Sorry, just Venting.
