the q once had more distinctive merchandise.  fashion days were so much more interesting, with more unusual offerings not to be found elsewhere. also items for more sophisticated entertaining, artifacts from Egypt, etc.   but the operation made a decision to go mass market at some point  -  and it buys, produces with that in mind. so i grab my moments of Linea, Catherine Z-J, and Dennis Basso -- and some jewelry.  yes, things change -

Re: Qvc nothing like it once was

@Pargy

Used to buy a lot from here. Started buying less when I learned they had been charging us CITY TAX for several years, and we did not and do not live in the city. It added up to several hundred $$ over those years.

I spent numerous phone calls and kept getting "passed on to other departments"?? Round and round we went for weeks, then finally I had to contact our City Hall Housing Department. They had to send me their verification that we did in fact live out of the city in both homes when we made those purchases. Now in our 3rd home, still not in the city. I sent that, what I called evidence, to that departnent at QVC.

Took over 6 months for QVC to cut us a check(I did not want to accept credit to purchase there, I wanted cash money).Just that City Tax was close to $900.

Now? Besides not forgetting that fiasco, I don't find many of their items that interest me. If I do, most of the time can find it cheaper and faster delivery elsewhere. Thus, I agree with part of thread title.

I think most people enjoyed watching those programs, but how many people consistently bought from those shows? QVC has elected to go where the largest profit is. A lot of things were fun to see, but I would never have bought them. It doesn’t matter what I as an individual would buy or not, though - QVC needs to think in the tens of thousands. I think for some of the more unique items QVC used to offer, especially anything in the realm of collectibles, there was no sweet spot for either QVC or the vendor.

I betcha that if QVC is still around in 20 years, posters will be lamenting how much better it was 20 years ago.

I don't mind the change, that's inevitable, but it seems they show a lot of the same over and over....

@Deanie  I think I still have  a Dialogue Jacket w/pants set.   Still looks good. I do remember that line on QVC.  I think it was pretty popular.

Yes, things are always changing.  Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.  I used to watch and purchase many wonderful quality, unique items, but that's kinda rare anymore.  I no longer watch very often, and rarely buy.  I can get the same thing for less money, and much quicker shipping in many places.
