Re: Quick Please....do you tip your plumber?

Hey everyone the plumber is long gone. Took him about 45 minutes to replace the toilet and put in a new shut off valve. Got the ""comfort"" height toilet because I'm not getting any younger and I absolutely hate those plastic risers that people use. Got the easy to clean toilet seat too. Only cost $395 and he removed the old toilet. Not bad $75 an hour labor plus parts.

Re: Quick Please....do you tip your plumber?

No disrespect but why would someone tip a plumber, electrician etc.? They charge an arm and a leg to do work so as it is! lol.

PS) Too bad I dont know you, my husband put all of our toilets in, it takes minutes. He could have done yours for free. I cant believe how much they charge! wow! Thanking God for my husband again!

Your plumber is a bargain compared to the ones in our area.

As for do it yourself, recently our neighbor had an expensive item installed by a friend's husband who was not licensed. When she went to register the warranty, it was void because she had not used a licensed contractor.

She had to call the area distributor who sent a licensed person. He had to uninstall then re-install the item. It ended up costing more than double what she would have paid had she hired him first.

Same here. As a matter of fact ours cost only $100 and is high efficiency...got it from Sam's Club a few years ago. You can still find similar ones at Home Depot. I never heard of a warranty on a toilet....parts like flappers are inexpensive. Also, contractors get special discounts when they buy things at stores like Home Depot much less than when john q public walks through the door.

Re: Quick Please....do you tip your plumber?

Morning...liking my new toilet....it fits.

I am single and hate to ask my only son to do things for me on his days off. The time will probably come when I am too old to get things done for myself. But while I can I want to do things for myself. Wish you gals who offered your husband's assistance lived in my neighborhood and they had offered to install...but alas, I had no offers.

Regarding tipping...I didn't plan on it initially, but then as I was sitting in my chair, already on the board, I thought why not just ask and see what others would do? He was a young fellow working early on a Saturday morning, and he doesn't charge anything more for Saturday work.

All of you are correct that brought up that I don't tip my doctor or my attorney. I do tip my hair dresser and he probably makes more money than I do. How do you decide who and how much to tip?
