@CatLoverDogsToo wrote:I have 2 piercings in each ear. I have the same problem with both piercings because I wear earrings infrequently since I work from home, and never in the second holes.
My solution which usually works, is to take a post earring and put it in back to front, leave it that way for a few seconds, and then remove and put it in the correct way. If that fails, and it usually doesn't, then I just stab the thing through and say "ouch"!
For the heck of it a few weeks ago, I tried to put earrings through the second holes which I hadn't in 30 years or more, and the earrings did go in, but they drove me crazy itching.
^ This. Works every time I have trouble getting through the back, after not wearing earrings for a while. It has worked well for others with whomI have shared this tip. Go from back to front to open it, then put the earring the right way. No ripping through skin, it just goes in.

@Shorty2U I haven't worn earrings in my upper piercing for many years, but one I can still get an earring through and the other I can't.
My daughter only wears earrings about three times a month and she can never get them in when she wants to wear them!

Mine were done with a piercing gun as well and I have a problem with the second holes as well. If I'm having trouble getting the post in, I put some bacitracin or neosporin on the post and push it in. Leave the earrings in for a few days.
If you ears feel sore, apply a washcloth that has been soaked in very warm water with the earring in! HTH

The gun is the worst way to get a piercing done.

@Shanus wrote:@Shorty2U My daughter got a second piercing when she was in her 30's. They were not done properly and did not go through in a "straight line". She didn't have trouble for several years, then had the same difficulty you mentioned. Her derm recommended putting polysporin on the post and if she still had to do too much poking around to get through to back of the piercing, she should let it grow back & have it pierced again when healed.
I am a retired RN. I have 2 piercings in my left earlobe and one in the cartilage of the same ear, and just one piercing in my right ear. For some reason, I have had problems at times with that second piercing and the cartilage trying to close. I did the same as your DD derm advised her EXCEPT I get the polysporin with lidocaine in it-that helps to numb the area if you anticipate discomfort. It doesn't take much and makes those posts just glide in. Just sharing in case someone is a little intimidated about experiencing any discomfort forcing the post thru.

I've never had my first piercings give me trouble. But when I was 32 I got a second pierce in my left ear and that darned thing gave me nothing but grief.
It never really healed. It was painful, would bleed all the time, I couldn't take the earring out or it was a supreme struggle to get it back in.
After a few months of problems, I took the earring out and never put it back in. The hole was shut in no time. And finally that area started healing. There isn't even a mark where that pierce was now.

I have two piercings in each lobe and I hardly ever wear anything in the second ones because the left one seems to be perpetually infected! Just about once a day or every other day, I can squeeze pus out of that one and if I don't squeeze it out, it just seems to accumulate and it feels like a little "ball" is forming in there. Then I'm able to squeeze a lot of pus out and the ball goes away. Weird, I know, because I don't try to wear earrings in there or mess with it in any way. And forget about trying to wear an earring in there - nothing but itching and burning, no matter how hypoallergenic or pure the metal! In my right ear, I can wear anything in either piercing with no problems.

@DowntonAbbey wrote:I wish my second holes would go away.............ouch I bet that hurt. I do get infection in one ear, one can have a rusty nail the other needs sterling silver without nickle and 14kt gold and up.
Just let 'em close up, @DowntonAbbey. 8)
