I was just going to suggest perhaps a move south but not so far south as Florida? There are states that have much milder winters but aren't as hot and humid as Florida in the summer?

I have friends who live in Hilton Head SC - it gets just as hot and humid in the summer and yet they have to put up with winter weather as well. Not for me!

Winter weather?? Hardly. Nothing more than a rare cold morning.

That's what I thought.

*my edit

Well, you all should go to SC for the winters then. Fl gets too crowded in the season anyway.

Florida gets chilly at night in the winter. It's not severe winter weather, but it does get cold.

Northern Florida actually sees a season change I understand - southern Fl get an occasional - maybe once or twice a year day or two of temps low enough for frost - we have to cover our outside flowers or bring them into the garage for a night or two. A normal winter I can still swim almost every day.

When we were looking to move to Fl we were advised by family who lived their whole lives in Fl to stay south of Tampa to avoid the cold weather and buy near the coast to have the sea breezes in the summer. We have found both pieces of advice were very good.WE live 100 mi south of Tampa and a mile and a half from the coast.

When you say "winter weather" you are certainly not referring to 8 ft. snow drifts.

I am referring to it being cold enough to have ice and snow. And it is cold all winter - they have to change out to winter clothes - we in south Fl get a few cold days a year only.

Lived there also, it is not cold all winter, HHI does not get snow and ice (unless there is a bizarre episode), I do not consider jeans and a long sleeve shirt winter clothes.

Re: Question for the snowbirds...

We spend the winter down in AZ. Many of our AZ neighbors made the decision to stay there full time. Like HH in 10 years or so we will probably choose where we want to be permanently.

That's my kind of weather. If I could find a place that was autumn all year long that would be for me!

Re: Question for the snowbirds...

autumn is definitely my favorite season.....in the mid atlantic area......beautiful fall colors, crisp cool nights, and comfortable sunny days with some rain thrown in. the air actually feels "cleaner" to breathe.

Definitely! Opening the windows by day, cracking them open at night is MY kind of weather! Toss in a few days of Indian Summer and I am a happy camper. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Re: Question for the snowbirds...

My parents were snow birds for 25 years. They'd head to FL after Christmas and return mid-April. When my father passed away, we sold the condo. They never had plans to move there permanently.

Some of you make it sound like going South is like going to a third world country!

American by birth, and Southern by the Grace of God!!!

Re: Question for the snowbirds...

We are snowbirds but unlike most of you gals who go to the southeast, we are southwest people. There are enough states, big enough for everyone. We personally could not stand Florida due to humidity. Our home state is Illinois and we get enough of that during our summers

I know, I know....there are those who say Az. is sooooo.... very hot, dry but hot. Yes, it is but if you have been raised in a climate with severe winters, you know enough to put on your overcoat, gloves and heat. It's the same in any warm climate, put on the A/C and get your necessary activities done in the morning.

Back to the original question: we would move to Az. full time in a heart beat. However, my 86 year old dad is still here in Il. We just got him settled into senior/independent living. Our condo here is paid for and between taxes and HOA, it very manageable for us. Also, my only sibling and his adult boys are all in Az. As long as my dad is around, we will be as well.
