Question for denture wearers

When you got your dentures, did they pull your teeth and put the plate right in immediately? And did you keep it in for days and days withOUT taking it out at first to clean?

Scenerio; I got teeth pulled and my plate put in. It looks gorgeous and so real! (like my teeth did in high school, no kidding) And it fits like a glove. Im VERY pleased. (still need more work done on my other level to match though).

Now here is the thing. The dentist told me to keep it in for a few days (sleeping with it), BUT preferrably to keep it in until MONDAY because he fears IF I take it out I wont be able to put it back IN (lol) AND he wants my gums to get used to it. And I must agree, IF I take them out, I doubt theyre going in for awhile, because when I wiggle it, OUCH due to swelling and healing underneath. (I see him MON. for a follow up)

To add; I bled like crazy initially. That has subsided, but I am very sore. (and I mean very). Now (1 and 1/2 days later) I also taste some blood on occassion (but dont see any blood per say).

Now, I have been brushing all my teeth after eating anything and rinsing with salt water and Listerine with the denture in.

BUT I am worried I am going to get an infection if I keep these teeth in till Monday if food gets around up and under (yuk!). I am thinking of taking them OUT but then I will look horrible AND I wont be able to eat anything but broth or ice cream and pudding for 3 days...lol..

So anyway Im just wondering when you got yours was this the procedure you followed, as in having your teeth put in day of extractions and did you have to leave them in for days at first?
