Question about landline phones.

Hi, My elderly mother-in-law spends about $30.00 a month on her land line. She has Comcast and does not have long distance. We are thinking she would be happier with some other carrier that does have long distance and doesn't cost so much. Have any of you dealt with this and if so what company did you go with? Thank you.
