I have a very close friend who has been sick for sometime with serious health problems. After a 3rd stay in the hospital a hospital disability representative came in and told her she should apply for disability. She had put off doing that because she kept thinking she would get better after this surgery and after this treatment, but that hasn't happened at all. She decided to go ahead and fill out the form.

Disability did call her and she had a phone interview. That was several months ago.

Today she received a letter that states, and I will type exactly what they wrote

We have found that you meet the medical requirements for disability benefits. We have not yet made a decision about whether you meet the non-medical requirements, but we will make that decision soon. Then we will send you a second notice explaining our decision.

So to me, it sounds like they have found at least medically that she meets the requirements. My question is, what are the non-medical requirements they are talking about?

I would just have her call to explain but it says to please not call until she receives her second notice because the people at the SS office will be better able to answer her when they have the info from both notices. I thought to me it sounded like she has a good chance of getting this, but I just wanted to know what you think. Before anyone says don't listen to anyone here and have her call them, I understand that but wanted people with experience with disability to weigh in.
