Here's the story. I belong to a hobby club...basically a bunch of older women. Every month a club member "volunteers" to teach a class project. The project should cost each club member under $1. My turn was last Thursday. I went out of my way to make this a pleasant evening...provided some halloween cookies and hot apple cider. The project I "taught" was not complicated...it is actually almost impossible to make something that hasn't already been done during the last 30 years.
Regarding price of the project, just told everyone to make a "donation" to the club. There was a box on a table for these donations....so no one would feel uncomfortable. Almost everyone was very complimentary on what I had done...they hugged me and thanked me. The club president mentioned to me that this is the first time she remembers people hanging around after club to talk.
Here's the problem as I was walking around helping members with the project, when I overheard one member make a very, very snarky comment about me and my project. Part of me just says ignore it/her. The other part of me wants to say: "what the heck is up with your remark?"
Do you think there is any tactful way to call this person out? By ignoring the incident I believe I am kind of saying it is okay to make unkind remarks. There are a few women in this club who have a long history of making new members feel inferior. I would like to think of someway to sort of "kill this woman with kindness".
