Question On A Credit

Maybe i have missed something, or maybe this post has been here before. Just wondered if anyone could shed some light....

I returned a ring last week. Return went fine. I received an email stating that my credit would be isseud to my credit/debit card in the next 1-2 billing cycles.

Why is it when you order, they ping your account instantly... but a return... to get the funds takes 1-2 billing cycles?

Thank you in advance for all of your answers,, i do appreciate. Im just trying... to learn and understand.
