I had a Molly doll that I bought in the early 1990's when they were still made in Germany (the uber best doll makers in the world). For reasons I won't go into, she was damaged and I had no choice but to throw her out, even after consulting American Girl about their Doll Hospital. I have had my eye on Kit, and finally bought her. I know the dolls are made in China now, but with the AG label, I was expecting a certain level of quality, especially for the price. I could not believe the difference in quality I remember from my old Molly. Kit's skin has this odd sickly yellow undertone to it, especially on the legs. I noticed this right away when I opened the box. Next, her hair is uneven - talk about poor quality control - it is clearly longer on one side than the other. Lastly, one of the legs just flops back whenever you pick her up, and I couldn't believe my eyes that it is not fully jointed, but that the legs are attached by a giant rubber band that connects inside the lower area of the doll.
I am wondering if any one of you noticed a difference if you or your child owned the former AG dolls as compared to the ones today. Or did you receive an AG doll and return it because the quality just wasn't great for the money? Thanks.
