This seems odd to me.
Your feedback would be appreciated:
I watch after my Grandmother who is in an Assisted living/Nursing home facility.
Last November, we applied for Aid and Attendance from the VA, since she was married to a WWII Veteran. Since then, I pay the Assisted Living all her Soc Security and the small Retirement she has - which is what we agreed to. She is also on Medicaid.
The Assisted Living told me that the rate for her to stay in that facility was $75.00- per day which her income at that time fell short.
9 months later she has received her Aid and Attendance from the VA. Her monthly income will pay for her to stay at the rate we were quoted. She also received back pay from the VA for all the months we waited.
When I spoke with the Assisted Living last week, they told me not to report the Aid and Attendance to Medicaid because she would loose it. I told them her income will now exceed the income guidelines and I need to call her caseworker to notify them of this.
Assisted Living told me that I should turn over all the back pay I received from VA to them. I said no. The rate they quoted me I'm willing to pay, but no more and I told them that.
They also said I had to give them the entire Aid and Attendance check monthly and keep $150.00 which she has been receiving from Medicaid. I said no again. I will pay the rate I was quoted. They said that the rate is different for Medicaid than those who do not have it, which they never said before.
Since we differ on the financials, i asked them to speak with the owners concerning what was told to me which differs from what they remember in our meeting and call me by the end of last week, which I have not heard from anyone regarding this.
This seems like potential Medicaid fraud to me.
Something just isn't right, and the Assisted Living suddenly not remembering what was said in a meeting regarding rates.
Anyone that can chime in on this, please give me your take on how to handle this situation.
Thank you.
