I have to laugh about those who applaud Amazon for their free s/h.  Amazon doesn't offer free s/h.  If you are a Prime member you are prepaying for your s/h.  It's not free.  If you are not a Prime member, s/h isn't free unless you spend a certain amount and that's only on items sold through Amazon, not third party vendors.

I think people applauding Amazon Prime for its free shipping subscribe mainly for its other benefits - e.g.video streaming, including original series, music streaming, and Kindle lending library.  They consider free shipping a benefit not offered by, for example, Netflix.

I’ve had Amazon Prime for a few years. As you suggest, I got it for the TV/movies. Everything else included in Prime is a freebie to me. It has been many years since I had cable TV. Free shipping is not something I would ever pay for. Free 2 day shipping is a nice perk but it isn’t why I have Prime. As someone else mentioned, you can get free shipping from Amazon without Prime; you just need to adjust your shopping habits a bit.

Re: QVC’s Plan to Survive Amazon Might Actually Be Working

If the Q is falling short on hair care then they need to give some incentives to women to get them to purchase.  Free shipping for one, gift with purchase and a discounted price.  As far as jewelry, depending on which brand is falling short, the Q should offer free shipping, discounted prices and perhaps a free charm (gold plated or silver plated) with purchase.  You have to be ahead of the other guy to stay afloat.  HeartCat Happy

Sorry, but Amazon is my go- to for just about everything. Like stated before--free shippng, fast shipping and easy, no nonsense returns. Far and away above what QVC could ever do. No brainer for me!!

@wagirl  What is the process for returning something that you ordered on prime?  I never get any receipt with most orders....and no  prepaid return  labels either?

Re: QVC’s Plan to Survive Amazon Might Actually Be Working

I'm a Prime Member for more reasons than free 2 day shipping.  I use the other perks too.

The question was asked if anyone would pay 99/year for 2 day shipping from QVC.  No I wouldn't, but I might buy into something for half that amount.  In addition to fast shipping (some of my Amazon  orders are next day), I'd also want unlimited free returns.

@Katcat1  I could be very wrong of course, but I'm willing to bet that the hair care losses can be largely attributed to lower sales in Wen.  That lawsuit was mentioned heavily in the news and in blogs.  Chaz is still coming on-air (I think he's due back very soon), but he has been on far less frequently than previous years.  Hair loss claims are not the same as "I didn't like the scent."  If people are really afraid to go back to using it, no amount of discount will change that.  QVC needs another hair hero and not just count on Nick Chavez to save the day.

I love your idea about free shipping!  They need to do that across all different categories much more frequently!

Re: QVC’s Plan to Survive Amazon Might Actually Be Working

I know I spent well over $100 for shipping with QVC last year.  I would have ordered more if the shipping was "free".  Now I know a lot of people argue it is not free; however, if you order a lot, it starts to be free at a certain point.

It can also be argued the shipping is factored into the price of the product.  Do you not think the exhorbitant price of Q's food doesn't have the shipping in the cost?

As for the person who ordered on Prime and had a modem sit for 8 days before shipping, I blame you for waiting all that time.  Mistakes do happen in life; however, Amazon will make it right.  If something doesn't arrive on the day it should, I call immediately and get a free month of Prime.  I have never been disappointed with Amazon.  If you did nothing, talking about it later won't make it right.

One positive quarter doesn't a trend make. Just because Liberty Interactive owns QVC as well as HSN and Zulily doesn't mean that they are an Amazon or have the same attraction for customers and potential customers.

I think time will tell. Being in Canada, I can sit back and just watch what happens. At this point I am turning my back on internet shopping whether in Canada or not, period. When it comes to clothes and beauty items I want to see, touch, feel, and smell the products and try on clothes and shoes in person before I buy them.

I enjoy shopping in person and browsing online but I seldom buy online now. That is my choice.

I shop at Amazon 100X more than I shop at QVC.  I only by stuff here that I can't get elsewhere.

The 'free shipping' debate is curious to me... My point of view has always been that whether it's actually 'free' or not, if I see two identical items and one is offered at the same or a lower price and the other comes with 3, 6 or 12 dollar shipping, plus tax on that shipping, then 'free' or not, I'm paying less money when buying from the retailer that isn't charging me shipping...

Re: QVC’s Plan to Survive Amazon Might Actually Be Working

I occasionally shop at Q and am very  cautious about Amazon. My BF got a bad computer from them and the computer company told him to return it to Amazon rather than honor the warranty and fix it - they checked the serial number first prior to telling him that.

I've noticed some of the "verified reviews are not for the product I'm looking at.......was looking at a vegetable cleaver and noticed the reviews were by people who purchased chef knives or boning knives from the same company.

The cover I purchased for my ipad was a great deal, but was defective...wondered why that price was half off on Sunday night but not the rest of the week.....
