charitywatch dot org is a mainstream organization which has been compiling statistics (with detailed explanations) for 25 years. Interested posters might want to see their non-biased ratings.

 

charitynavigator dot org is another - nation's largest.

Not sure if this had been mentioned here. If you donate to Red Cross thru Walmart, they are matching donations 2 to 1

Coming from people that were devastated by Sandy, I heard nothing but good about Samaritan's Purse, Red Cross on the other hand, not so much.
