This is also the case with online retailers. Every business I shop with will have sales, these prices do not stay at the sale prices forever.
The biggest culprit of this so called Yo-Yo pricing is Amazon. I save a lot of items and every day that I log onto Amazon I get a long list of price changes. Some only pennies different but some go up and some go down in varying amounts.
Here's a perfect example ... in the past few months, I've been watching a specific set of Charter Club sheets at Macys.
Regular price is $120, too much for a guest room. The prices bounce all the time, so I waited.
After Thanksgiving they were $68. After Christmas ... for ONE DAY .... that very same sheet set was $42, which is when I pounced and purchased. Just now, I checked ... they are $120 again today.
Honestly, I understand your point, but keep in mind that "clearance" prices aren't carved in stone prices. They can also fluctuate fairly regularly.
