One of those "unnecessary" items is swimwear. The top even though it was a long sleeved button down blouse was in the category of a bathing suit cover up. I never wore it as one but as a regular top...go figure!
I'm really curious to know WHY PA doesn't think swimsuits are "essential". You have a lot of skinny-dipping going on??? (Just joking...my dh was from PGH)
@Desertdi It is ridiculous! I think swimming is considered a "luxury" so it should be taxed according to the powers that be.

Sales tax charged by retailers depends on how that retailer is registered in the state. Who knows how Q registered there.
They hung up on you? Reps don't hang up unless the caller gets too heated. While that's fairly subjective, it's the rep's decision to decide what's too heated. If so, I'll bet your account is flagged for the next call.
I didn't call. I used the messenger. I wasn't heated or upset. I just thanked the rep for the return of the $3.50 S&H and asked for the of the return the tax on shipping as well.
I never got a yes or no. The rep just closed the messenger and then I immediately got a screen to rate the rep....I didn't rate the person. I just gave up.
It wasn't about a few cents. It's about the integrity of the company. If I was a few cents short, QVC or any other retailer would not accept my order.
When the shoe is on the other foot, they don't refund what is due to the customer.
I live in PA where QVC is located. They're a retailer and we both know what is taxed or not.
In PA, S&H is taxed, so when it is refunded, they know they're supposed to return the tax as well. They make mistakes...we all do. I just wanted them to fix it.
I will just keep a better eye on what I order in the future and make sure everything is perfect before I finalize the transaction.
I was a CSR for almost 25 years. I know to be polite and calm when there is an issue. I always treat the reps with respect everytime, everywhere.

@RespectLife I own a hair salon and sell beauty items. They're taxable. I too, send in quarterly payments.
I agree with you 100%. I took the tax issue on a pair of shoes all the way to the president years ago and they wouldn't refund. They said to ask the state for a refund because they already sent it to them.
I did and it was refunded. It took me a while and a lot of correspondence and time to get back a few dollars.
If they do this on the regular, they're raking in "stolen" money.

I contacted CS though the app and explained and they " hung up" on me. Now I know it's only a small amount and won't kill me, but it still is not correct.
In the past, they charged me sales tax on shoes that are not taxable and would not refund my money. I had to make a request from the state and after all of that, my money was returned.
Keep an eye on your transactions. A few dollars or cents here and there adds up. Busineses should be honest and do the right thing.
@Carmie So how much was the tax on $3.50? What is your states tax rate? My state is 7.75% and it would come out to be $.27 (27 cents).
But think about it....QVC sells millions to millions of customers.
If they are incorrectly dealing with tax.....that adds up to thousands and thousands they should not have.
Maybe .27 on that order, but how many other orders times how many thousands and thousands of customers they are doing this to???
Plus, I don't want NYS getting taxes they shouldn't! I am drowning in NY taxes...they get enough outta me!

Just got off the phone with CS and a supervisor. They said they can only refund the shipping and not tax so to me this is clearly no mistake on their part....Will be reporting them..Yes the tax is not much but adds up per person each time they do this.....Just so wrong.

@Sparky3333 I can see a class action for QVC in their future if they do not stop their illegal practices.
This has been going on for quite a while and I suppose most people don't notice it...but some do. I know I do.
