My son has a dealership. Cannot imagine him watching QVC to buy or sell new trucks, SUV's or vehicles! Smiley Wink

Re: QVC Offering Little or No Fine Jewelry

the quarterly financial reports over the past few years for qvc say a lot. jewelry isnt selling like it used. to. there is really no reason for them to put MORE jewelry shows on if people are not buying. it would be a waste of time and an even bigger loss for them.

QVC's  so-called jewelry expert who "retired" was Peyton Kelly and he didn't call it retirement.

I don't think people are buying jewelry as they once did.  We've had many posters who say they're no longer interested in accumulating more.  I know I've got plenty and don't even look at jewelry shows any longer.  If a customer wants to buy jewelry on TV, there are plenty of sources other than QVC.  Jewelry TV sells only jewelry and related supplies.  Perhaps you need to widen your search?

Elaborate, please. Have never paid attention to QVC's P&L's. Have they gone up or down? From their customer service, I'd guess down. However, if they are buying HSN it makes me wonder. I've never been of fan of them at all. What's the plan of that attack? How could they be going up? QVC's programming and products have been going down for years! I'm so confused. Just know I'd never invest!!

Re: QVC Offering Little or No Fine Jewelry

[ Edited ]

When times were hard QVC pretty much got out of the jewelry business, other than what was essentially costume and fashion jewelry. They also seemed to pick a specific gemstone (drusy, black spinel, Sleeping Beauty turquoise) and offer little else... In the past few years they seem to want to jump start their jewelry operation but don't seem to know how. From where I sit, it has been mis-step after mis-step with most jewelry shows offering very little in the mid-range. Most pieces offered were rather pedestrian, repetitive, largely uninteresting and were either somewhat chintzy or more expensive than most of us will choose to purchase sight-unseen. While QVC used to be a premier jewelry resource, it seems that the other home shopping entities are now doing more with jewelry.

All that said, they haven't offered a meaningful jewelry presence for the holiday shopping season in years... They're so focused on the endless presentation of trinkets, novelties and 'practical' presents, while jewelry has tended to be pushed to the wayside until just after Christmas. I'm not interested, but at some point one can probably anticipate the annual Honora pearls marathon before Christmas...

Re: QVC Offering Little or No Fine Jewelry

@steviebI couldn't agree more.  QVC hasn't recognized trends until everyone had already bought all the drusy, spinel, Morganite or Sleeping Beauty they wanted, then it appeared to the exclusion of all else.  Mr. Kelly seemed to be a kind, knowledgeable man but he was not able to adapt to the times and contend with the competition.  The Q got left in the dust.

Re: QVC Offering Little or No Fine Jewelry

Like others have said, QVC's financials tell the tale of why QVC doesn't sell much fine jewelry (or any jewelry for that matter) anymore. Because it doesn't sell. QVC is not a destination website for fine jewelry.

@BirkiLady

to put it plainly, some things are up and some things are down.....jewelry is definitely down. each quarter there is usually a long thread on the QTALK forums that discuss where the problem areas are and jewelry has most definitely been a problem for MANY quarters.

there really IS a valid reason why susan graver, isaac mizrahi, LOGO are featured so much.

overall business is up for qvc in the 3rd quarter and down for hsn in the 3rd quarter.

@Kachina624 I'm not sure it was PK or DG or what they were more or less instructed to do... Once they went down the Bronzo path, trying to find their way back just seems to have been a huge slippery slope for them... Their 'flavor of the month' approach to jewelry seemed to me to be part of their larger move toward narrow branding... Of course, with respect to jewelry, it would appear they were held accountable. I don't think they're going to have any greater success with the new supposed experts they have filling air time... The ship has sailed...
