Re: QVC ONE MINUTE OF SILENCE

I was very moved by QVC having a moment of silence for the terrible tragedy that affected our city of Las Vegas. QVC quite often expresses how important their customers are to them and their actions indeed proved that. We are united in buying items that bring us joy and happiness and now we are united by this tragedy. Our city of Las Vegas needs love and support, which has been shown by people all over the world. We truly need prayers and we ask God to bless all the victims and their families and friends that have gone through this horrific event.

Please keep Las Vegas and our victims in your prayers.

Re: QVC ONE MINUTE OF SILENCE

This is a tricky thing .... and if I'm understanding this correctly, the hosts just stood on camera silent for a minute?   Is that what happened?

Personally .......  I don't need for a shopping channel to tell me to take a moment and say a prayer ..... I am smart and sensitive enough to do so on my own.

To me, it would have been better to have a 10-15 second still shot preceeding every show all day long saying that all the people at QVC offer their condolences to the victims and families of victims .... well, you get the idea.

I also think having a nice condolences comment at the top of the QVC home page would also be thoughtful.  Leave the hosts out of it.

Having a moment of silence is a nice thing, I guess, but since the entire viewing audience of QVC wasn't watching that one show that had the one minute of silence, most people missed it.

@Sooner  The lowering of the flag is at the request of the president.  At my office, my department takes care of the lowering and raising (and replacing when needed).  There is a website that will notify you via email whenever the flag needs to be lowered.  Search "half-staff flag" and you will find it and they will send free notifications.

IMO, lowering the flag is not a chore, it shows respect for the situations, whether it is the death of a president or in respect of those killed and injured as in the recent Las Vegas tragedy.

I also display a flag in front of my house.  My father is a veteran and I am proud to display my country's flag.

I agree with you however, I think respect can be shown without lowering the stars and stripes.  To me, it is symbol of respect and caring and the values and laws of the nation--with liberty and justice for all.  To me, that the flag would fly at full mast would be to say to the world, this is what we stand for, and this we will defend and you will not take that away from us.

If we continue to have a lot of violence, do we just lower the flag forever and bow to that?  Or do we keep it flying high as a symbol of what we do not tolerate?

A tragedy such as this should bring us together as a people, ONE. NOT divide us over the lowering of the flag.

Think of those lost and injured and not petty ideals.

The point is that we have different views and ideas about things.  I am so tired of the thought police telling people what they MUST think.  I think differently than a lot of people here, but I do think I have a valid point:  So do we just lower the flag and keep it lowered?  I think it is time to think about and the message that it sends to the world.

So what's wrong with my voicing that?  Tolerance for different views is what makes us America.

Those, us, that are not living in LAS VEGAS, or directly affected by a loss of a human life, feel we need to do something, ANYTHING, you feel helpless.  So the only thing we can do is yes, WHY NOT BOW OUR HEADS AND A PRAYER CERTAINLY CANNOT HURT, CAN IT ?  JUST TO PAUSE, AND BE THANKFUL FOR OUR BLESSINGS, AND ASK OUR LORD TO WATCH OVER THOSE AFFECTED.  ITS PRETTY SIMPLE....

WHY DOES EVERYTHING ALWAYS HAVE TO BE A DEBATE AN ARGUMENT, A DIG.

IF A MOMENT OF SILENCE SETS US OFF OR LOWERING A FLAG SETS US OFF WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT US ?

I did not say there was anything wrong with your opinion. Mine is different. Lowering of the flag is like the bowing of ones head in my opinion.

Re: QVC ONE MINUTE OF SILENCE

@Sooner, initially, I strongly disagreed with you, but in reading this explanation, I have to agree....

When you think about it, th lyrics of The Star Bangles Banner echo your thoughts...the Stars and Stripes still flying in the air after rockets and other artillery was used- was a testament to a completely new set of values that we as a very new country embraced....blood was shed, but a new nation, embracing new philosophy was born...

...yet, I would say those who lower the flag in a memorial are not wrong either...

I can appreciate your thoughts about this-and it really makes me think....one act of violence against any one person is wrong....but I can understand where you and Kachina are coming from at this point on that note.

You put your idea about the whole situation very succinctly and eloquently.

You cannot assume everyone has the same reaction.  I didn't feel the least bit "helpless".    I felt profound sadness.   And no, I did not need a shopping channel to tell me what to do.   I think most people can figure this out on their own.  JMO
