Re: QUESTION ABOUT FLORIDA AND COVID 19

There are so many different opinions on what is right, what is wrong.  Seriously we can only do our best and hope we will beat this thing.   IMO, I truly feel people have to be able to work, we just cannot continue to live like this.  In my state we are in Phase one (RI) which is really no different than Phase zero, but I digress.  We do have to wear a mask but only when in a public place, such as supermarkets, pharmacies and anything in that scope.  As far as walking on the street we are not required to wear a mask as long as you can avoid getting close to others.   I do agree though, it is a mystery virus for sure and will probably take years to really understand it.  Hence why my feeling is we must move on.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT FLORIDA AND COVID 19

If anyone is getting their numbers from their regular news source and their only knowlege of working with numbers and data is reporting on polling you need to go find better sources of information to explain this stuff.

In the case of Texas that was mentioned positives are up. BUT testing is way way up and the percentage of positves in those tests is down. That's good news.

Also when they started this flatten the curve stuff clearly there was a diservice done on what that means, although looking at the nice pictures they would show should have made it clear. Flattening the curve just drags things out longer. Instead of a huge spike that could overwhelm a hospital you just get cases at a lower rate. As long as there are cases there will be spread. An there will be cases for a very very long time.

Dade and Broward County Florida are set to begin opening Monday.

Cases in Broward are far from declining and deaths are also on the rise. Cases (6,133) are UP 8.7% over the previous week. Deaths (272), up 5.8% over the previous week. Bar graphs depicting these two parameters show a steady INCLINE in both number of new cases and number of new deaths.

UPDATE:

Unbelievable. The new numbers for Broward and Dade Counties just came in.
This is just for Broward. They are way up from just a few hours ago. Total cases, 620, up 10% from last week and total deaths, 278, up 8.1% from last week.

I'm hoping these figures are more indicative of increased testing and don't actually reflect new cases.

Our governor here in Az has opened everything this week.   If you live in Florida or any other state that has opened businesses and restaurants how are your numbers regarding COVID 19?

I am fearful this opening may blow this virus up.  I hope not.

@Calcgirl I heard on the news that all the casinos on the Indian Reservations reopened completey and that people cheered when the doors opened and immediately started playing the machines.  Also heard that people drove in from Ca and Nv to get in their gambling fix.

My feeling on this is breathing recircluated air for mulitple hours with a lot of people is not a good idea at this time.  (ya think)

Were people wearing masks?  I'm thinking that most were not.

You couldn't pay me to go into one of those places now.

I also think that the Gov of AZ as well as the federal govt has no say in what their timeline is or was due to being on an Indian Reservation.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT FLORIDA AND COVID 19

These are the numbers for Florida.  You can choose your county and you can even see by your zip code.  This is published by Florida Dept, of Health and Disease Control, not thr newspapers:

@Laura14  FIAT oh my goodness. What color? Neon green lol. I spent a few years years  growning up in the Carribean  and a Gospel Station in St. Maarten (St. Martin) did commercials for FIAT. It said  ¨The FIATS are here, Yes Sir¨ He sounded so convincing that people were flocking to buy  a FIAT. They were so cute.

Do you really believe people in India are counted?

It would be hard to hide tens of thousands of dead people.

@gardenman

India has a population of one billion almost 400million people, many of whom live in the direst, most squalid, crowded poverty with no access to hospital care let alone testing.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT FLORIDA AND COVID 19

What bothers me the most are all the predictions. I don´t blame people who continue to live their lives, while being careful of course. I go out, hate wearing a mask, but I do. Can´t live my life in fear. I know a few people who haven´t left their home in over two months but yet they send their love one out to the stores. What´s up with that?

One thing I found interesting regarding numbers in Florida (where my mom lives and I would like to visit) vs. Pennsylvania (where I live), Fl has roughly double the population of PA.  However their Covid numbers are at least half including deaths...why?

I realize that PA got it sooner but it's now many weeks later than when the northeast first got it.  Plus Fl has been less strict about social distancing that PA....just thought that this was interesting.

Flying however looks very dangerous to me and I won't be getting onto a plane for some time.  I simply can't physically drive that long to get there to see her.

Why is the big question with this virus. Lots of things about it don't seem to make a lot of sense. You would think population density would play a role, but a country like India with an incredible population density is relatively untouched with just 85,940 cases among 1.3 billion people. NJ has 143,905 cases with a population of just 8.9 million. India has 153 times as many people, but about half the cases of Covid-19. Why?

Even within NJ you find wild variations. My county only has 446 cases of Covid-19 despite being a major travel hub. Routes 295, 40, 49, the Turnpike all run through my county with route 55 either just in or just out of it. We have lots of diners, restaurants, hotels, motels, truck stops, but just 446 cases with 18 deaths. Hudson County has 17,237 cases with over a thousand dead. Hudson County has 676,061 people while my county has 62,607, so you would expect the numbers to be ten-fold higher, but Hudson County has 38 times more infected. Why? Are Hudson Countians just more reckless? More unlucky?

We're still in the early stages of understanding this virus. It feels like it's been around forever, but it's only been known for about 136 (or so) days. There's still lots more to learn about it. A lot of what we're seeing from the numbers, just don't add up though. Countries you'd expect to get hard hit by a pandemic are relatively untouched while some countries you'd expect to be able to handle things are getting crushed.

@gardenman I have wondered about India.  The population is huge (over 1 billion) and the poverty is intense with people living on top of one another....yet you just don't hear much about Covid counts there.

I just looked it up...less than 3k deaths there...so odd if true!
