As others have said, when you don't live in an HOA these are the type of issues that pit long time property owners who have had a peaceful existence for years now hitting a brick wall.  It is not fun dealing with a new resident who does not want to talk it out. The only adult is the one who was there first.  It's surprising to me that so many think they should just surrender their happiness and play a passive role, one that could play out for years.... lest they insult their oppressor who obviously couldn't care less and have no intention of changing anything...... unless forced to by an arbiter.  Heaven forbid if they experience any discomfort themselves like shining a light in their eyes.. Nope, that's all for the OP and her husband.  Very sad state of affairs.
