@novamc1 - The McAfee pop-up is a scam.  I've had it happen a few times and I don't have McAfee on my computer.  It's only happened, when I'm on my desktop.  I've never had it happen when using my iPad.

It doesn't matter what site you use - including this one - these pop-ups happen from time to time.  It doesn't have a thing to do with ProBoards.

As others have pointed out, ProBoards doesn't have any critical information.  An email (you can set up a separate one specifically for them), user name (anything you like) and birthdate to comply with the age law (anything you want to make it).  So what information would anyone be trying to steal?

I don't think it's necessarily the information they have just on that site they're worried about.  If someone clicked on the pop up inadvertently, they're worried someone would gain access to the rest of the information they may have on the device they're using.  Especially if they're getting that message only on that particular site.

It's like people that are worried about the security here with all the glitches.  Like staying logged in all the time.

When you can log in, that is...

I must admit to being disappointed in posters here who now seem to be attacking those on another site.  The pop- up is fake.  The other site is different, but it is not hard if you take the time to learn what you are doing and / or ask questions.  I really enjoy interacting with folks on both boards, but I find some posts I have read here to be stirring up trouble where none exists.

Re: Pro boards a scam site?

For what it is worth, my security software, Norton, gives me a warning message BEFORE I even enter a website, that it is questionable.
it does not give me a pop up after I'm in the website.
Forgot to add that I got no warning when I entered the pro boards.

I'm glad posters are reporting issues and concerns for both sites.

Seems like there is a strong attempt to muzzle posters from posting concerns and problems they have encountered at PB. It's a Free Country - we can post concerns and opinions - no need to try to make it be "pretty" when it obviously has some flaws and issues that can be serious!

I agree.

But in all fairness I also see a lot of unkind comments over there about people that choose, for whatever reason, not to go there.

And there we go 😝

I'm not at all surprised! I don't give a rats arse what anyone says or thinks about where I shop or participate. Such juvenile catty behavior 👎

Mostly, those on Pro are concerned that the Q bb will close and the posters they enjoy will be  gone. Here it seems more fear mongering to discourage posters from the Pro option.

@novamc1 I had the same experience. I tried the ProBoard, and it went to the McAfee scam site. i couldn't get out of it. I had to close my browser.  It was a pretty scary feeling (since the site came with an actual alarm beeping sound).  That is why I didn't log in again to ProBoard.

@HerRoyaLioness

Earlier this morning, I was able to get into ProBoards, pull up threads and comments, with McAfee warnings intermittently, but Norton popped up over them.  I could still get around ProBoards a bit.

My Norton is now blocking me immediately after I login into ProBoards. I can unblock it which I did this morning because I knew I'd be OK if I didn't click on the McAfee warning; however, I continued to get Norton warnings with each page I tried to open. I wasn't seeing McAfee warnings anymore. Norton, then, forced me to close ProBoards because I couldn't access any of the threads or comments.

Maybe, the difference in our experiences has something to do with the browsers and Norton version we are using. I'm using Microsoft Edge and Norton 360 Premium.

It's pretty obvious Norton is telling me not to go there until this issue is resolved.  I'm going to listen because I've had some serious issues with malware in the past.  Just being careful.

It doesn't mean I won't be using ProBoards anymore.

@SurferWife  I don't have any of the browsers you mentioned. I use Edge that works best with windows. I did not receive a warning but I had an uneasy feeling about the website.
