Pro boards a scam site? - Page 6

@novamc1 - The McAfee pop-up is a scam. I've had it happen a few times and I don't have McAfee on my computer. It's only happened, when I'm on my desktop. I've never had it happen when using my iPad.

It doesn't matter what site you use - including this one - these pop-ups happen from time to time. It doesn't have a thing to do with ProBoards.

As others have pointed out, ProBoards doesn't have any critical information. An email (you can set up a separate one specifically for them), user name (anything you like) and birthdate to comply with the age law (anything you want to make it). So what information would anyone be trying to steal?

A scam site? No. The popup is a scam.

I use Duck Duck go search engine and never get pop-ups. I'll never go back to Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

I received that warning, too. I DO NOT EVEN HAVE MCAFEE!

If you have McAfee-- it's not your legitimate McAfee!

I easily got off the Proboard page and went to another site when this warning came up.

I DO NOT THINK IT WAS PROBOARD DOING THIS -- but some nefarious organization got in there.

Why would you want to delete, there is not a thing wrong with pro board.

@goldensrbest I don't know about @SilleeMee, but I deleted my account on ProBoards. Why would I keep it it I'm not going to use it? And I won't use it.

I haven't gotten any pop ups or any issues at all with proboards. I don't feel threatened at all on that site. It is no different than any other site on the Internet.

Actually Proboards is safer than this one because, at most, Proboards has our email and date of birth, which need not be actual, where as the Q has our email, home address and our bank account or credit card/debit card. Moreover, a hacker might see the Q as lucrative, unlike Proboard that is just discussion.

@occasionalrain I totally agree with you. If Proboards gets hacked no big deal. If it happens here not good.

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to all this but I'm on a laptop computer, Chrome browser, AdBlock Plus, use McAfee and have never seen such a pop-up over at ProBoards since I joined back in October...my experience only, FWIW. In the last almost two weeks I've signed in multiple times a day and never had any trouble. I will add that I prefer the QVC forums simply because I've been here for so long and I'm more accustomed to them. But when this forum shuts down, and it likley will, I am very glad to have another site to still interact with those I've come to know here. Simple.
