@Scooby Doo    That sounds like the illicit McAfee site that everyone here is discussing.  It's not your installed software but some kind of malware and should be ignored.

I just went over and signed in and no pop-ups for me just business as usual.

 As for  judging what information is "disparaging or incorrect", I lean toward trusting the warning from  McAfee Internet Security.  They've done more research on scam sites than I have.

I pay them good money to subscribe to the service and provide  some protection.

@novamc1 That does sound scary. No pop-ups here...

Just because a popup appears to be from McAfee, doesn't mean it is. Before clicking on the link, contact McAfee directly, if they are your security provider, to be sure it's actually from them.

I visit and post on the ProBoards site every day.  We have AVG internet security and the latest scan says that no viruses or malware have been found.  So I'll continue to visit the ProBoards site, which I've found to be full of friendly folks from the QVC boards.  If and when the Q boards disappear, I'll still be able to communicate with all of them at ProBoards, which puts my mind at ease.

The reason nothing was found was because you didn't click on the McAfee page initiating a scan of your software. If you do, they could plant malware on your computer, possibly, steal credit card numbers when you enter them to purchase something.  Also, your name and address and other personal info you don't want anyone to have.

It often works in the background on devices quietly following users around on the internet.  Some sell users information on the "Dark Web" for others to use.

@Foxxee  Well yes, I know that, which is why I would never click on a pop up in the first place.  That's just basic internet safety.

On a similar note, it's interesting to see how many places have been trying to track me and where they're trying from.

In the last seven days I've had twice as many trackers try from the QVC site as from the ProBoards site.

Never want to underestimate anyone's knowledge about a particular subject, so I extend my apologies; however, it appears some are not aware.

@novamc1

The same thing happened to me on that site.  I only log in on occasion.  The last couple of times I did not get that alert.  I am not tech savy enough to understand why it happens.

I don't plan on joining any other Q forums when these shut down.

Sites like ProBoards sell advertising on their site. (As do most online sites.) Sometimes those buying the advertising then sell those spots to someone else, who can then sell those spots to someone else, and that person can then pop-up an ad that appears to be a genuine warning when it's not.

I have no issues with ProBoards and Mellyg's site. It's as good, safe, and fun as any other on the Internet. Use a pop-up blocker, keep your security software updated, keep your computer updated, and you should be fine. The folks at McAfee have confirmed the pop-ups are fraudulent. ProBoards is trying to track down who's posting the pop-ups (which can be tricky as ads often go through multiple vendors) but as long as you don't click on the pop-ups, which you should be blocking anyway, you won't have an issue.
