If I don't recognize the number that's calling I don't answer the phone, I let the call go to voicemail. If it's a valid call, they'll leave a message. If they don't leave a message & they call multiple times, I go to Nomorobo & block the phone number.

Recently I've had a few calls where the entire phone number of the caller doesn't show up on my caller ID, just the last few digits do so I can't block those calls since I don't have a phone number to block.

Calls come through every day here, private or telemarketers (and we are on the Do Not Call List and have an unlisted number). I just let the answering machine on and don't answer if I don't know who it is (by the caller ID). I don't think anyone can totally prevent all unwanted calls. They do eventually stop calling, it may be months but they give up at some point until the next person tries.
