My daughter will be entering 9th grade, her first high school year, this year.  The principle has sent out emails to keep us up to date as much as possible.  In his emails he states he welcomes questions and has answered some FAQ in email form.  I decided to email him with some questions/concerns that I have.  I quickly received an email response "may I call you,, it will be easier to answer your questions."  Of course I replied yes and shortly after that he called and one by one (there were 5) he answered all my questions.  He spentn 28 minutes on the phone with me.  I thought that was pretty great of him to do that.

Re: Principal Called Me Today

@ScrapHappy  WOW! It's great to have a principal so directly involved. My grandson will be entering 9th grade in the fall as well (fingers crossed), and his principal is also great. It really makes one feel that someone is in their corner.

This makes my heart happy.  So sorry their high school years and everyone's years are jumbled up with all this stuff but I hope they have a happy healthy school year and hats off to that Principal for taking the time to talk to you.

Maybe he should compile a list of all the quesitons and set up a section on the school website of FAQs.

If he spends that long with every parent that has questions he's not going to be able to get anything else done.

Re: Principal Called Me Today

I don't have a child or even a grandchild in school but I'm very concerned for the welfare of our youngest citizens.  I feel that we are not only endangering them but will further endanger parents and grandparents with what the kids are likely to bring home.

It seems to me that the concern is not so much for the education of the children but for the economic impact of parents having to stay home to care for and home school them should they not return.  Right now I'm feeling it's insanity for them to be in group settings while the pandemic is raging.  I'd be very concerned if I was a parent.

But this way, he gets PR value and avoids putting anything in print. In this volatile, ever-changing situation, that has to be a plus.

The best plan would be to follow how S. Korea and Japan have managed school settings, per what a guest who knows was just saying on a TV interview.  Without a national plan and resistance from the top to CDC recommendations, school adminstrative people will need to put their heads together much as our governers had to do to protect kids and their families and by extention, all others.

I think you'll agree some people are more conscientious than others.

Re: Principal Called Me Today

My son is in junior high and is undecided whether he wants to return

to school at the end of August or do online work.

Our school sent out surveys a few weeks ago and a big concern will

be bussing all the students. I will not be available to drive and pick

him up each day so I have to find out whether busses will run.

We have some things to figure out in the next month. I am confident

that he would be successful if he stayed home and did all of his

work online as he always make honors.
