I think it is just a matter of taste instead of generational. I liked Prince better than David Bowie but I liked Michael Jackson's music more than Prince's music.
As far as being closer to age, singers like George Strait and Garth Brooks are around my age but my all-time favorites are who I grew up with Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, and George Jones.
All who we like and love to listen to.

Unclaimed tickets only. I sat center 6th row. Prince was magnificent, and Mavis Staples was with him. I was mesmerized. I a a BIG Clapton fan, but I will say Prince was the ultimate showman. I realize now how important this memory has become. RIP, and thank you for sharing your gift with the world.
@mariadomenica - Lucky girl that you got to see such a talent! I hear he put on an amazing show for his fans.

Maybe it's just me ... I don't even understand why the comparison ...

I have been very surprised by the amount of coverage Prince's death has received. Several known musicians (David Bowie, Glen Frey, Merle Haggard,Maurice White, etc) have passed this year and none have received near the amount of attention that Prince has.
Yesterday all the cable news channels were showing non-stop Prince from the moment his death was confirmed.

I don't really understand the comparison either.

Why all the tributes?
One hyphenated word: avant-garde
dee
RIP Prince Rogers Nelson

Prince's prolific body of work, the awards he's received, the innate talent, a self-taught musician who could proficiently play nearly any instrument have earned him a place of endearment. He was not only loved by fans but respected by artists. He lead a relative quiet life, donated to causes he believed in with the understanding that it would not be made public and always went home to his roots in the Twin Cities.

I think there is a line between extraordinary talent and genius.
I put Prince over that line.
I think that musicians who knew him and worked with him did, too.

@lovinglife - I think Bowie too was an innate talent. Just think it's strange the two were so much alike, that Bowie wasn't given the due he should have been at the time of his death. It was just kinda brushed over compared to the tributes Prince is getting. I agree, I think Prince was AMAZING, as was Bowie.
