Hi @hsawaknow

I didn't know you had gone through all of that, I am sorry you still deal with pain.

We don't know that Prince didn't try other things, I would hope he did.

I took a pain management class and, sorry to say, it did nothing for me.  But I'm ok Smiley Happy

Hi Noel, yes I had a horrible surgery that changed my life and I have never been "normal" since all that while going thru a divorce and my 2 oldest children not speaking to me, and still not speaking to me! I have been to the ER and admitted to the hospital twice in 30 days and I got pnumonia all in a month. The only good news I have is the doctors know exactly that the pain is in the pocket of the pancrease.

[ Edited ]

1. Prince was a health nut who did not use recreational drugs.

2. Prince had hip replacement surgery of both hips but was still in pain afterwards because he had bad ankle joints also.

Oh no, I am sorry to hear all of that.  I remember the trouble you had with your husband and how badly he treated you later.  You've been through a lot.

I hope things are a little easier on you now, take care.

Someone was giving him prescriptions for fentanyl which is dangerous. I'm sure there will be an investigation.

I hope the world realizes that the icons like Prince & Michael Jackson gave so much of themselves performing and entertaining.   I know MJ had life long pain from the burns he sustained on his scalp where he had many skin grafts, and Prince with his hip situation.   MJ had terrible arthritis in his ankles and knees.  He got hurt in a stage accident where the prop he was on fell many feet to the floor of the stage, injuring his back.

The wear and tear on their bodies from overuse and extensive performing took its toll.   We lose them too young at the hands of incompetent doctors.

I just read that Conrad Murray is comparing himself to Jesus for all he did for MJ.  it makes me sick to my stomach.

Opioid addiction is a horrible thing and more widespread than we can imagine. It can happen to anyone.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed several years ago I was given a Rx for 30 pills for pain with one refill!

I never needed the 1st one thank god.

Just wanted to chime in and thank those who have posted for keeping this 'above the line'.

When I read the tribune article (I realize it is not the formal statement on the autopsy), I started to tear up again.  My heart is so heavy with the thought of him being left alone in that big building in such a frail condition.  I realize hindsight is 20/20 but I can't help but wonder, what if someone had been there?

@Bird mama

I know you are a fan of Prince, as I am.  Thank you for your kind and gentle comments.  Opioid addiction has many faces, including my mom.

@magicmoodz

Thanks for such nice words magicmoodz.  We were, are and will continue to be his 'fams'.  I have some experience with fentanyl , not as a first hand patient or consumer of it, but as a family member.  I know a couple of people who have struggled with opiod addiction.  Aside from being once of Prince's fams, perhaps knowing family who have struggled with the same thing adds to my sadness and makes me sympathic.

I gotta tell you, one thing I have always loved about Prince is he 'got' women. I think women more than men 'got' him.  When he came out with Art Official Age in 2014 and re-introduced "Camille' except this 'Camille' sort of sounded like Alvin the Chipmunk, he, he, I thought, baby, you are really testing my overall devotion.

And then he sang a song that hand the line - You know you want me like a new pair of shoes.  (I have a thing for shoes).  I felt like he was talkin to me and I said, okay Camille can stay, I forgive you Prince, as you were :-)

Oh @Bird mama your Camille comments made me LOL!  If only my legs were as beautiful as Camille's!

I have had a difficult time with Prince's death.  Maybe because he was a local, maybe because I knew musicians who recorded at Paisley Park, but most likely because I always felt beneath all that adrogynous, gender-bending, musical genius was a troubled soul.

So everyday I find myself paying homage to Prince by singing Purple Rain, but out of respect to him, I only sing it in my head.  This girl cannot carry a tune!

Thank you, that means a lot to me Noel

Spoiler
You have always been kind over the years. The last 3 years have been the worse I lost every thing in the divorce, while in the hospital my ex filed a restraining order against me and filed for divorce. I couldnt even go back into my own home and get my clothes I was basically homeless. I had no money and the clothes on my back. My 2 oldest kids still refuse to talk to me my daughter is25 and my son is 16. I get to see my  10 y/o once a week. I didn't do anything to deserve all this but I cant dwell, therepy and a good shrink do wonders. Thanks for sticking by me....Felicia

His last performance, he used a cane and sat at the piano. He stopped wearing stilettos years ago. Jumping around?  If you are going to judge at least get your facts straight.

I would never fault anyone for what they do or take or abuse to alleviate their pain whether it be physical or emotional.

Pain management is so so important with terminal and or chronic pain.  I have worked in hospice and fentanyl was usually used as a patch ....which continually supplies dosage. Then for breakthrough pain another pain med was used.   Under proper visiting nurse care and physician oversight there would be minimal risk of dependence.  Unfortunately, people become easily addicted without supervision.   Now the investigation of who were the docs that prescribed all the stuff.

I was surprised to hear on CNN that it was Fentanyl, which yes is usually a patch. (So that's why I am puzzled by this because that enters the body slowly!). SO sad to hear this all about Prince. I was hoping it was not an overdose but of course I am wrong. And PS I have chronic pain and I refused Fentanyl. I take other pain medicine for chronic pain for my spine issues. But I try to take as little of my pain meds as possible and opt to get injections (and other procedures) regularly for my back so I can tone down the medicine when those procedures help for a while, because this all scares me when I hear about addiction and overdoses! But I will say this, chronic pain is horrible and no one understands unless they live it!
