Re: Prince cause of death as reported by the AP and MN newspaper: Updated

[ Edited ]

I would blame it on the lame Thinking of his cult like religion and their doctrine....surgery was not an option for him to get his hips and knees replaced do to the possibility of a blood transfusion which is against his beliefs.  So he resorted to powerful pain killers that killed him.  There are conflicting stories out there that he had his hips replaced in 2010.  Other stories say he never had them replaced....I tend to believe that.

I had had both my hips and knees replaced.....never had a blood transfusion.   Regardless, he made the decision to not have joint replacement that would have possibly saved him from taking too many pain killers.   He would most likely be alive and live a long life.

I'm thinking since he needed hip replacement surgery and did not have it for one reason or another, the pain became brutal and hence he needed these powerful pain killers to perform. And then unfortunately his body built up an immunity to them and he needed more. As you have all said, how very sad😿.

@LIndaMJIt was against his religion to have a blood transfusion ....his religious beliefs killed him.

@Noel7 I'm so sorry to hear that. Cancer is such a horrible way to die. I know that by the time I was diagnosed at stage 3 I told the dr that I literally could feel that I was dying. I had been misdiagnosed 2x at that point. Where is the logic in worrying about a person suffering with terminal cancer becoming addicted. Modern hospice care has really helped a lot of people leave this world with as much peace as is possible under the cicrumstances. I hope no one has to go through what your great uncle did.

Thank you, that is so kind of you Smiley Happy

I didn't know you had cancer, I am so sorry and I hope you are free of it now.  You certainly went through a lot, what with the misdiagnoses.

@Noel7 It was a long time ago. I got lucky because my chances of going into remission were pretty low but it's been so long I'm considered cured. I had lymphoma.

@Mz iMac

To my eyes, he pretty much looked like himself, good for his calendar age through 2014.  He seemed to me to look more exhausted in 2015 - probably mid to late 2015.

I know what ultimately took his life according to this report.  According to Prince's chef, Prince was having digestive issues for a couple of months. He appetite was fickle, according to reports, he was having problems eating.

When a person is a slim as Prince was, you really cannot afford to skip meals.  Any type of throwing up or issues on the other end, you dehydrate in a couple of hours.  My Ma was a skinny minny - I've seen it happen first hand.

You don't eat, you get anemic.  You don't eat, your get dehydrated, your immune system weakens, your breathing gets a little funky.  It starts falling like a house of cards.

Add to that, a fentanyl patch and it all goes to hell.

All I've prayed, since I heard the news in April, is please let him have passed out and fallen asleep before he crossed over.

My ma, years ago went into the hospital for bruised ribs.  The first night she was in the hospital, they gave her pain medication that was too strong for her slight body and it suppressed her ability to breathe.  She went into respiratory distress.

I had a mager surgery two years ago and I still suffer pain from that surgery. I have been on oxycodone since then, the same dose and amount. Occasionally I have had to take an extra one and some days Im lucky and dont need any. The difference is I have to see a pain management specialist who helps me stay at my dose and not increase it, to try and use tylenal first, to distract myself. of course my level of pain is not the same as a Prince, but I wish he would of tried something, he was a fabulous artist and gone to soon.

I don't see how we can blame Prince's religion.

For one thing, he didn't exactly follow the rules, so to speak, especially with what I have read to be his use of recreational drugs.

Secondly, there are doctors who have come up with ways not to need a transfusion for knee replacement.

And I found this article on the benefits of not having blood transfusions for surgery.  Just an FYI:

Hi @hsawaknow

I didn't know you had gone through all of that, I am sorry you still deal with pain.

We don't know that Prince didn't try other things, I would hope he did.

I took a pain management class and, sorry to say, it did nothing for me.  But I'm ok Smiley Happy

JW have advocates that work with doctors at hospitals regarding surgical procedures that don't require transfusions.  I think the scar on his hip was probably a hip replacement.  He sure could put on a show so I am surprised that both hips weren't shot.

I look at it this way.  I know people who needed knee and hip replacement surgery that put it off for years.  They had insurance and the means to have the surgery without it bankrupting them.

They put it off because they were afraid of it.  Afraid something would go wrong, Afraid it wouldn't work.  Afraid they would be worse off.  Let's be honest, how many people cringe at the thought of having back surgery?

Once these individuals got over the fear and actually had the surgery, they said they wished they had gotten it over with years previously.

Maybe Prince was like some of the people I know and was scared of having the surgery?

@Noel7  His religion says once your blood leaves your body it is unclean and can not be used. So the cleaning of his own blood would not be an option.
