We were give Amazon Prime as a gift last Christmas. What a great gift it has been!

@Duckncover  hope you get the same gift this year. It's totally worth it. Would you get it for yourself if the presenter gives you another gift rather than Prime?

Amazon makes me smile.

Re: Prime Membership

[ Edited ]

I enjoy my Prime membership for more than the free and incredibly fast, reliable shipping. I have enjoyed playing a lot of musical variety and great choices on my Alexa unit. I also have seen many movies and shows via Prime Video, all for the same price of membership, no additional costs.   Prime membership comes with Prime Music and Prime Video.

There is additional cost to get Prime Music Unlimited but I don't need the extended millions of selections. So far, anyway!  I've never made a music request from Alexa that required Unlimited.

To me,  Amazon Prime is very much worth the cost per year for 3 kinds of benefits.

@Silver Lining  10% is a very high sales tax, and on food, that's really awful.  Ebay, up until about a year or two ago didn't charge sales tax, but they cracked down on them and now they do.

Most states don't charge any tax on groceries.  Some don't charge tax on clothing, New Jersey is one if I remember correctly.

Yes, 10% taxes are terrible, especially on food. What's really awful is people who make just a tad over the line to be eligible for food stamps or other programs have to do without things because of the high taxes.

@Silver Lining  I know I can Google this and get the answer but why would I when I am enjoying reading the Posts on this Thread. The question, could you please say which State or if not, say East, West, North or South.

Hope you aren't one of the States that gets taxed on SS also.

I live in the Southeast now. Land of heat and mosquitoes but beautiful beaches. Yes, we pay taxes on everything and on social security. A minimum of fifteen percent up to twenty-two percent taxes are taken out of my social security checks depending on how much money I earned. Sometimes I wonder why I work so hard and the feds take a big chunk. Billions and trillions of those dollars go to support certain political mandates that don't even benefit the tax payers. Sorry I didn't mean to wander away from the Prime Amazon discussion.

Consider yourself lucky. Everything you purchase here and subsciptions are taxed 10%. Food, groceries, etc., etc., etc. You name it, we are taxed 10% no matter what. We pay $128.50 for Amazon Prime. Of course, people who get EBT, i.e. foodstamps and/or section 8 housing and/or Medicaid, and/or other freebies, pay little or nothing for Amazon Prime.

@Silver Lining  Doesn't Amazon charge you the same percentage tax that you'd pay if you purchased an item at a store in your town?  Our local sales tax is 7%, and I thought Amazon charges us the same.

it is state specific.  lower income people don't free prime membership either.  They are just allowed to use EBT for food purchases on amazon.

The lower income people who have an EBT card are eligible for greatly discounted  Amazon Prime membership.. They can't use their card for goods and services but they get free two-day delivery for things they actually pay for. They also get free access to Amazon Prime videos. They are getting a lot of free perks for practically nothing if they are already on food stamps.

I can't imagine being so desperate for someone to look down on that I would engage in class warfare and begrudge a poor person an EBT card or a discount on free shipping. At Christmas. But that's just me.

What a weird tangent to steer a thread on Amazon Prime toward.
