@DiAnne

I have done this my whole life, and taken a lot of grief for doing so, but honestly over the course of years, the savings is huge.

I understand some people don't have the time, and some don't have the physical strength to go so many places, but for us, the multiple places I go are all in a line on the same road, within just a few miles of each other.

Re: Prices of just about everything

So I did grocery shopping today. In my area Aldi vs Walmart (won't even bother with Giant or Safeway anymore as they are WAY more than double the cost of these two stores).

What stood out:

Eggs: Aldi was $1.77 for a dozen large. Walmart was $2.75 for dozen large

Milk: Aldi was $2.80 for whole, gallon. Walmart was $3.75 for whole, gallon

Bread: Aldi was $1.45 for a basic white loaf. Walmart was .88 for a basic white loaf.

Aldi was cheaper on ALL canned goods and fresh meat. Their frozen ground beef 1 pound chubs are the same price as at Costco.

What WAS interesting is a buddy who came with me. He lives about 20 minutes south in Montgomery County. In Germantown, here was what HE paid yesterday:

Eggs: Jumbo, 18 at Walmart was .88

Milk: Whole, Gallon at Walmart was $1.23

Bread: At Walmart, basic white loaf was .99

HUGE difference in price. That's the kind of thing that ticks me off. His area is just as expensive as mine to live in as well. He's going to check out Aldi's tonight and see what those things would cost there.

When the economy is doing good you will always see inflation. Unemployment is low. Its one reason they have raised interest rates. They are trying to slow down the rate of inflation.

If the increase in prices is really due to an increase in minimim wage salaries, I dont mind.  But how do you know its true?  That could be their standard line they were told to say from corporate.  People do need to make a living wage.  But if Im paying so the CEO can get a $4 million bonus, Im not shopping there anymore!!

@meem120

Excellent point.  Executives don’t need a raise.  Very greedy!

Its Bssic economics. Thr more money peope have to spend the more inflation you will see.

@esmeraldagooch

I bought 2 large bags of Starbucks dark roast beans - one is in my freezer and one in my pantry. I got them on sale a couple of weeks ago. I put an extra tablespoon of ground coffee (4 cups = 5 tablespoons) when making it. The 4 cups are actually 2 large cups.

There’s a QFC practically in my backyard so I shop there often and like their artisan bread collection.  I hit Costco this morning.  What do you purchase at Metropolitan?  One  moved in relatively close by but I never seem to stop in.  I do love their warm cookies.  @DiAnne

Where I am really noticing increased pricing is restaurant meals.  I enjoy eating out but am cutting back a bit.

Has anyone heard why the tariffs will affect peanut butter?

I am single and shop at King Sooper. I buy meat, vegetables and dairy. I do not buy junk food because I don't need it. Also, I have their card. I bought everything I needed and spent $64.00.  I do shop at Sprouts and like their fruits and vegetables. They have some of their own brands that I like. Also, I shop at Target. I find their prices to be reasonable plus I get an extra 5,% off my items. I have their debit card. Also if you use their cartwheel app, you can save more money at checkout. They just scan the barcode.

I shop at Sam's Club for toilet paper, paper towels, kleenex ,coffee and some cleaning supplies. Also, I buy their packages of meat and freeze them. It works for me.

@tansy  Without getting political the EU is countering the steel tariffs with higher tariffs on peanut butter, cranberries, denim and a few other items from us in a move akin to a trade war.

I buy all my fish at Metropolitan Market.  I absolutely love their produce.  Best around.  I love in the summer they will have local strawberries and raspberries.  Also I never miss Peach-O-Rama I think they call it.  They buy the entire crop and they have the best peaches I have ever tasted.  The only down side is you pay extra for quality.  I used to shop for fish and produce at Larry's Market before they closed.  It is similar.
