Just wanted to come on here and thank all of you for your beautiful messages and prayers......really, I didn't intend for this to be about what I am going through.  I just wanted to let everyone know it is a very difficult time for anyone going through this.  There are more folks out there that are dealing with this kind of cancer every day.  No matter the age of the person struggling with it and the treatments, it is a difficult thing to go through.  There is a constant fear of where it might crop up inside our body......  That is why it is so important for the oncologists to stay on top of the cancer with the MRIs and PET scans.....it can crop up- any place any time.

I know I will continue to keep President Jimmy Carter in my daily prayers.....and hope you all do too......

Wishing him well....what an amazing human being!   It doesn't surprise me that he has  chosen treatment.  I don't believe he is finished with his mission here on earth.  This man lives his Christian values!

Re: President Carter update

[ Edited ]

I was young when he was in office and didn't really pay much attention to politics at the time, but since, he has impressed me as a genuinly caring man, who continues to do good for our country..

I was totally blown away that this is melanoma, a skin cancer basically and yet it had spread to his brain and liver. That is extremely disturbing.  However, Jimmy is handlling this with the same dignity that he handles everything.

I love, admire and respect President Carter.  He is the nicest man, so kind, paced, and  intelligent.  He acts without calling attention to his deeds.  In his 80's his sleeves were rolled up, building homes for Habitat for Humanity.  He didn't show up for the photo op, he worked long after the cameras left.  I had the oportunity to meet him 2 times, he just beems!  He and Rosilynd (sp) are perfect examples of humble servants.  They are doers...and they LOVE it.  It shows in the kindness of his face.

I love this man.  Not surprising to hear this dignified and courageous man has found peace. (with a little bit of humor sprinkled in)

Melanoma is unlike basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma (the three types of skin cancer). Basal cells are almost always self contained and when removed it's end of story. Usually the same for squamous cell, but it can spread to other organs, though it's not common.

Melanoma is a killer - very often. It depends on the depth when caught and first removed, and whether it's spread to a lymph node. It can spread to just about every major organ, and once it does - also end of story, but not happy ending. It is generally deadly unless caught early and treated aggressively.
