I don't see a problem here.  You are getting your medications.  The pharmacy is call the doctor's office to renew the prescriptions.  You don't have to do anything.

My doctor does the 90 day with 4 refills.   I had to change doctors last year due to my long time doctor retiring.   He always did the 90 day with 4 refills.   I was glad my new doctor did the same.   I do see him every six months, with blood work once a year.

Based on personal experience, the three things that influence this most are .... the doctor,  the drug being prescribed, and the laws in your state.

The answer is no.  My doctor writes my prescriptions for a ninety day supply renewable for one year, in accordance with state law.  I just got new prescriptions last month written like that.  My drugs are sent automatically every 90 days by my online drug mail order company.

OK - I was wrong.

The pharmacy is now having to call my Doctor's for the renewal. I was at the Doctor's in March. My prescriptions are now due for renewal and the pharmacy is having to call the Doctor's office for a new prescription. So I didn't get one renewal. I only got the initial prescription filled for 90 days.

@drizzellla

All of my prescriptions are mail order. Have had the same prescriptions for years and after my PCP visit could get a 90 day prescription with 4 refills.

Then all of a sudden 1 of them became a 90 day supply, with No Refills. My doctor has to write a new prescription every 90 days. I was told the Classification of the Prescription changed, thus I needed a new prescription for each refill.

Forced to Mail Order because the cost to do otherwise is financially prohibitive.

I see my PCP once a year at best and she writes me a script for my BP med for enough for 90 days plus 3 refills, so good for a year.

Re: Prescription renewals

[ Edited ]

I was not able to get 90 day supply until recently for bp meds. They were finally moved down from tier 3 to tier 2 so I can get them more than 30 days at a time. The doctors can't change refill requirements..Medicare and insurance companies hold all the marbles . What they can do is write the script for twice a day instead of once a day...then you get 60 instead of 30.😎

Sometimes it's the pharmacy's policy. I have heard, for example, that CostCo only fills 90 days, not 30 days, for ongoing prescriptions.
