I don't know anything about the anatomy of chairs but...

my brother bought some beautiful chairs that were thick in padding and were comfy but...

after a few years - the padding is sinking 

he turned the chair over and I guess it can be reupholstered but there were these large bands of elastic and the elastic no longer has the strength to support  the weight.

there was NO hard slats so when you sit in the chair - it becomes a hammock

as I mentioned - I don't know how chairs are made and this may be the way they are all made

Thank you @Gooday  and @loveschocolate for being our connection to Preds right now.  

Our Preds - always thinking of others.  She brought so much joy to us.  Every morning, I'm hoping to see all her funny memes she posted while we were sleeping (or tossing and turning LOL).  I wish I could turn back time and have her well and posting with us.
