@dooBdoo : I understand about following a written recipe. I have better results following a recipe instead of just a little of this and a little of that. I had followed my grandmother while cooking and measured and written everything together. Mercy the memories of delicious fried pies - especially the peach made from the dried peaches.

Hello Lovelies,

Happy Birthday to all July Lovelies!  Glad to see that @SouthernBee is ordering and getting some goodies.  My Bd is in August, and I have ordered a few little goodies.  I have always loved Scottie dogs, and I saw a cute iron Scottie dog doorstop many years back.  So I ordered one!  Not a Scottie, just a door stop!  And I ordered some DVDs from EBay.  DH and I pick out our own gifts.  

Wow, all this talk about home cooking, especially southern style.  Did I ever mention I was born in the Deep South?  My northern parents lived there several years during WWII, where my Dad was stationed.  And when the war was over, they returned to CT, where they were born and raised.  And, irony of ironies, a dear friend moved years back to the South, very close to the former base my Dad was stationed at!  We have been bestie friends for about 50 years.  

My parents had fallen in love back in CT.  When my Dad was drafted, my mother and father decided to marry.  Mom got on a train, and the two were married where he was stationed.  The old family story - the bride and groom, maid of honor and best man they met, and the priest who married them in the church.  That was it.  True love, that lasted until Dad passed at 64, and love for him that lasted until she passed at 90.

That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it.
