i took typing as a course in JHS - i guess most people call it middle school but it was Junior High School when I went
it was a huge heavy machine where ur fingers can fall between the keys and it was so hard to strike the 'A' or any keys using the pinky and of course they want u the have the same consistancy so the ink appears the same and not dark and light
my sister had a Royal typwwriter with also open keys and it had a either leather or faux leather case - i got a Smith Corona electric typewriter when i was in high school and used it for term papers into college - i dont remember if it was a reuseable ribbon or 1 time strike cartridg
but i do remember i had to stick a white piece of paper to restrck errors
my first job was typing checks manually using IBM with the ball - YOWSA!!
I LOVED IT
no more white sheets of paper - it was fast and light touch
i always took my typewriter with me as i moved within the company
my handwriting is terrible so i typed everything - purchse orders etc
hate that when u write the last copy which is mine (with the carbons in between)
you can hardly read what u wrote
sorry for droning on

I love typing! I didn't like it so much in high school and using carbon paper and the white out. I didn't like smudging. I want it to be crisp and clean. Remember lining the paper up just so. We had to type out papers with the same margins top and bottom and left and right. We couldn't use a dash at the end of the line if the word was too long. LOL
I remember getting a typewriter with a case. The lid had a latch on it.
The IBM Selectric was so fancy and fast. I loved that typewriter.

There's a lot of people that hunt and peck. It looks painful to me. LOL
My kids had computer keyboarding in grade school. That's how they learned how to type. When I tell them about carbon paper and white out, they look at me like I'm an alien. LOL
