It was also "predicted" that there would a " huge wave of infections " as a result of that pool party, and hospitals were going to "swamped" with infected people .
Did that happen?
No, it didn't.
A poster's family had a backyard party over Memorial Day weekend, and again, doom and gloom predictions of people getting sick.
Did one person get sick as a result?
No.
So, excuse those of us who don't put much stock in to the latest "dire predictions", when so many past "predictions" have not come to pass.

And which "experts" are predicting this??????

It's hard to put much stock in their "predictions" when they have been wrong so many times before.
Wasn't it just a few days ago that the WHO said that asymptomatic people can't infect and make healthy people sick?
Now it's "predicted" that " hundreds of thousands " of people will die by the end of summer?
If it wasn't so sad, I would laugh at the constant flip-flopping.
Just more of them trying to control people with fear, and to incite more panic and hysteria.
Feh!
That was retracted because it was incorrect. The spokesperson basically misspoke. The actual study didn't say that at all.

Totally agree with the OP.
Until a vaccine is available, do not take this virus for granted. Why? As proof, states that opened up early, now have a rise in cases such as Arizona and Florida and it's not due to additional testing, but from carelessness of not distancing. And 6' is not enough, a sneeze travels over 9'. Stop thinking of yourself if you think this is just a passing inconvenience on you. Because nothing about this virus has changed, please consider others' safety and peace-of-mind.

@Pearlee, I wonder how you would suggest anyone interpret your message of
”Another gloom and doom thread.”
I do stand by my interpretation of your simple and direct statement. I will also add that my DH’s nephew, an internal medicine doc, is treating virus patients at a large hospital outside a large metropolitan area. It brings yet another layer to my dedication to a “duty to warn.” I am officially so, so done.

As for me, I continue staying home as much as is possible and doing what I can to stay safe... I am tired of the threads and have been for some time and agree with @Pearlee that it seems the same folks are somehow compelled to start them and see that they continue, apparently into infinity... Their right, I suppose... And yes, I know, I can skip them and often do... As for their concern, I'm pretty much over Birx and Fauci... They might both have had a track record with AIDS, but I've yet to hear any recent or meaningful pearls of wisdom from either of them about this one... Also, no longer giving the vaunted 'scientists' a free pass on the relative lack of consistency or knowledge because 'this is so new'... It's not that new anymore and at the rate they're going, by the time they figure it out, there'll be something even more 'new' to worry about... One can only hope this latest set of predictions, assuming they're substantiated in the first place, will also be wrong... Doing so with caution, but moving on...

I've seen these figures being reported by someone at Harvard Global Health Institute and Emory University School of Medicine. I have no idea though what they are basing these predictions on.
