It amazes me that anyone would want to be a LE officer nowadays. I guess it must HAVE TO BE a calling!!!

I feel sorry for them.

A few years ago, my daughter had a little fender-bender and the cops who arrived on the scene were so sweet to her - she had burst into tears.

Best believe it IS a calling..........my son is a cop, he deals with the dregs of the earth on a daily basis.....yet he still goes to work everyday with the idea. the hope, that he will help someone who really needs it.......he has wanted to be a cop since he was two.........I'm proud of him, very proud.........but I'm also scared for him, especially now that he has a new baby boy of his own.........I've asked him on many occasions........why a cop son.........his reply is always the same........I want to help people mom...................................raven

@nana59 Someone interviewed about a half an hour ago mentioned the slary of police officers in Baton Rouge and it was something - of course now I forgot the exact figure - that I would never risk my life every day for.   Hugely underpaid.

It was mentioned a little while ago on TV that the median is $49,000/year.  That's more than I make as a teacher with a masters degree.  That's more than a lot of people around here make.

Actually, yes, I do.  Every year I have taught there have been knives and guns confiscated.  Some were brought into my classroom.

I would like a huge increase in SS.But police, school teaches, nurses should come first. Adding military.
