Daisy is a 10 year olf chocolate lab that lives in NNJ.

My lab developed a very large growth on her right paw where the paw meets the toes. Just looking at it we knew it was not good. It appeared overnight looks very raw and she is licking it constantly.

We went to see our vet today and he is referring us to a specialty practice that has a surgeon, orthopedist and cancer specialist.

There is no doubt in his mind that the growth is cancerous. And none of the cancers he suspects are good.

Her best shot is surgery but there are complications. When we adopted her she was walking on her paw pads and not her toes. It is a defect in the wrist type ligament at the end of her legs. As a result she has some arthritis and other joint issues. The cancer is in a place that likely requires amputation of several of her toes which would likely either make the leg useless or cause its amputation. Because of her other joint defects there is a chance she may not walk again. That would be no quality of life.

We are going next week for a biopsy to mail down the eact type of cancer and see what if any treatments are available.

We have walked this road before with another chocolate lab and in spite of heroic efforts the outcome was not good.

I am going to start her on a holistic diet ASAP (can't hurt) and if anyone has recommendations that would be great.
