My Aunt Joy (age 67 with Down's Syndrome) is hospitalized after having an extensive stroke while in a nursing home--she cannot speak or swallow--she is barely conscious. She is also suffering from a urinary infection, blood clots in her legs and a massive (stage 4) bedsore that is down to the bone. All of her life threatening conditions (except for the stroke) are due to neglect in the nursing home. It is truly horrifying to see your loved one decline while being "cared for" in a nursing home--no amount of complaining changes things. The staff in the nursing home were nasty, lazy and thieves--all of my Aunt's clothing (nightgowns, sweat pants & sweat shirts) were stolen while she was a resident--she was left to languish in a wheelchair wearing only a top, a diaper and a thin blanket over her legs. The staff had no compassion whatsoever! My Aunt entered this nursing home two years ago--she was able to walk, talk, dance, feed herself and go to the bathroom alone. Within a year the staff made her dependent on them by making her sit all day in her room--which weakened her legs so she couldn't walk anymore--they insisted on feeding her so she forgot how to feed herself, they made her wear a diaper and refused to take her to the bathroom when her legs weakened because of their laziness--I could go on and on. I want everyone to be aware when their loved one enters a nursing home--keep a close eye on how your loved one is treated--report any abuses--I would never wish what my family is going through on anyone!!

Please pray for my beloved Aunt Joy....we are hoping & praying for a miracle this holiday season...and yes, I am looking into filing a lawsuit against this nursing home...even if no lawyer will go ahead with it, I will bring the abuses to the attention of our state health department and anyone else who is willing to listen and do something about this horrible place. I want justice for my Aunt, even though it cannot help her now.
