Delaney,

I am sorry too for taking so long to get back with you. I wanted to wait till I had a bit more time.
Your brother was so young when he was diagnosed. I can see that you have had a very full plate. I am pleased to hear you are finally able to get a degree in something that interest you and that I can see you will excel in. I think sometimes, God, puts up and takes down fences so we will go in the direction He sees for us.
I am sorry your father has been so ill and that your mother has mental problems. Sometimes I feel like I am dealing with children and I think saying no to a parent or having to be "firm" with them is so difficult at times. I am sure it is for them also. I am glad your dad is finding peace at the cabin.
I know what it is to lose a beloved pet. Sorry, for the loss of Maggie. We lost a home due to an explosion in 1993. We were home but we got ourselves and our dog, Hank out. Had that explosion been 15 minutes earlier we would have been standing right next to where it happened and the fire chief said to us, more than likely, we both (DH and I) would have been dead. God has his hand in everything. Shortly after that, our son was critically injured in an accident. I nursed him back to health at home. He had a fractured skull, broken ribs, and his back was broken in 3 places. He was listed in critical condition. I am so thankful God spared him. He is married now for 12 years and has given us 2 beautiful granddaughters.
Getting back to parents.....I don't think I could handle taking care of 2 parents at home. For one thing, my dad was a 6 ft. 200 lb. man and he became out of control. There are many reasons I could list of why it is better for him where he is at. Actually, we almost had to do it for mom. It took us 6 yrs. to convince her that Dad was not going to live much longer and that he could possibly die by his own hand if we didn't do something. Mom lives to go see him and be with him. She can now enjoy him once again now that he is mentally stable. It's not the same but she is finally coming to grips with the fact that it was best for Dad. You will know when it is time. Fences and fence posts will go up and either open up a new path or close one down till you know you have chosen the right path. God has a way of lighting them up and, while it's never soon enough for me, He paints the picture and He knows what the last stroke will look like.
My daughter went back to school and has her associates degree in alchohol and substance abuse. She is going on to get her degree in counseling. She works with a charity right now that uses horses and get's kids interested in riding and taking care of them. The woman who runs the charity and my DD have become great friends. It is her farm that lodges these horses and gives horseback riding lessons. She has offered my DD a job when she gets her degree. DD is soon to be 44. I am happy she has found her niche.
I understand much of what you say about the pressures, both mental and physical, of caretaking. It would be so difficult to do it alone. I can't even imagine. It is obvious you are a caring daughter who wants to do right by your mom and dad. Just keep in mind that sometimes what we think is best for them may not be what God thinks is best. It has run through my mind several times that God may have put Dad where he is to be a witness to those around him. After all, this is many of the people he is around last few years or even last year. They may not have much longer to choose God. I have heard my dad talk to some of them. Maybe, just maybe.......that is why he is there????
I wish you much success in your career, DeLaney. I pray for your parents and I pray for you for wisdom. Thanks for the encouragement. I needed it!

And I have another - talked to my daughter who teaches at the University in Texas, she's up for Tenure - it's all up in the air right now whether she'll get it or not, and she's very concerned if she doesn't, she could lose her job.

Yes, I will be praying for J.C. Also for your daughter, gloriajean.

Jean, the woman who had her bladder out, may get to come home this week. They were so pleased with the way her surgery went. She actually had less pain with this one than the one she had just months prior. Thanks for the prayers.

Rowan: Didn't mean to ignore your. Our weather here is odd. Snow one day, rain and ice the next, then back to snow. Have always liked winter but this year I am really looking forward to Spring!!!!!!

Quite alright, Jubilant! With all you are dealing with, I did not expect an individual reply. I'm getting MUCH from your discussions with others here and do so admire you ladies strength and faith - strength through faith, I should say. Have aging parents of my own ... we will all face these things eventually, if we are not to join the Lord before them. I pray I'll meet these challenges with but half the grace of you. My prayers continue for you, your parents and DeLaney's, too. Thanks for sharing of your hearts here! Won't Spring be a most welcomed blessing this year?

Praying too for cater's friend, J.C. May his health be restored to him, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Prayers for Gloriajean's daughter, Darla. May the very best employment opportunity be revealed to her, and quickly! Be it where she is, or something much better yet.

Remembering ShowMe also in prayer, as I understand her chemotherapy did begin today in her fight against melanoma. May our merciful Lord comfort and strengthen her during this battle, in both body and soul.

Please continue to remember my uncle in your prayers. He is suffering with clinical depression during grief for his recently deceased wife - my father's sister. I thank you on behalf of our family.

God bless and keep you all.

Thanks for all the prayers. I just got news an hour ago that Jean is doing good! I have not heard her prognosis yet but, hopefully, will be talking to her daughter tomorrow. I was beginning to worry when I hadn't heard anything so I was relieved to hear this.

Naes: My dad has been through 12 major surgeries in his life. Three of them...we never thought he would make it out of. The family calls him the guy with 10 lives! God always gives him back to us. He feels useless at times but he sings....even to his aids and nurses and much of what he sings are hymns. Some of them know these hymns and sing with him! My brother and I went together for Christmas and got him one of those things he can watch Gaither Gospel Videos on. He likes that a lot. Mom said she and my sister and Dad were singing The Old Rugged Cross the other day with Dad and he remembered every word of the first verse! He is walking to therapy class with his walker with the therapist close by. God just isn't finished with him yet!

We have a lot of snow again here in Indiana so I hope bobbiesue got out. Usually when we have it.... Ohio does, too....trying to remember everyone in prayer.

As with you, dear jubliant, I continue to remember each post, learn the new loved ones who have need for comfort. We all do at different moments, need the connection of our experiences with 'reminders' that some lives have come to a point...sometimes too much to get through, when others never realize within our immediate surroundings. Your news of Jean doing (better than I would have expected) wonderful is a blessing. I find the story of your father so sweet...just so sweet. When I was very young, my family had a sunday ritual- The Sunday Drive. My day who never sings, not even in church always started up singing The Old Rugged Cross. We were always so excited to hear dad sing, that it was as though you could hear a pin drop~ Your father is sharing his love to others in the home; believe me, each one will remember him for that song. God shares him with each patient, just as love and kisses and a tight hug. THOSE WHO GO THE DISTANCE ARE THE ONES WHO STAY TO CONTINUE TO FILL IN THE HOLES... THAT ARE EMPTY, WITH MORE SPECIAL EXCITEMENT. I TRULY BELIEVE THIS.

~`jubliant`, your dad sounds great with his therapy. How blessed you have been having such wonderful parents~ Your 'dear dad' has not given in to pity, yet he maintains AS THE joy he is brings to those whom he will never know... in how much he touches them.

I understand how time consuming it is being a caregiver. What patience you have shown. I have read the following posts, others', from 3 days ago and have their answers, some with questions learning about different paths we each are traveling or have traveled.

The weather map shows almost three thirds of the country having severe cold, snow or flooding. Hah, I believe summer will be here around May-sometime. Smiles Smileand hugs to you at this time. Stay strong. I could not envision you any other way..............really.

Adding gloriajean's Darla to my prayer list.

Rowan, I'm remembering your uncle daily in prayer.

Giving thanks for prayers answered on Jean's behalf, jubilant! Hope your dear dad continues to grow stronger, and the Lord reaches many more through him.

My brother's wife, K.Q. would deeply appreciate all prayers for her serious multiple health issues. TIA, and may God bless you.
