Postmarked Date - Have a question

we have a pitney bowes machine that we use for postage. it puts the current date on the postage. That is what the bill collector will look at right? the PO will not put another date on it anywhere. my boss is concerned because I put things in the mailbox with today's date on them and he wanted them mailed today. our box had already been picked up. To me, one day won't make a difference.
