My son and daughter in-law bought a new Nissan CRV last week. They shared their experience with me and it was an eye opener.
As others have said, the prices have gone up. Once they decided on the car they wanted, they visited several dealerships. There was not much room to negotiate a price. All the dealerships in our area were charging $3000 above the MSRP! The salesmen were not pushing to sell since their inventory was low and they knew cars would sell to someone fairly quickly. They did get a good price for their trade-in. Getting a car from another dealer nearby would take a month or more, so it was best to find the car they liked on the lot ... color etc.
When you do your car shopping, I hope it goes well.

I bought a 2020 small SUV with 6,000 miles on it this past spring. I really had no intention of buying one immediately, but after speaking with the dealership about the lack of new incoming inventory, I decided on getting this one that had just come in on a trade-in.
It wasn't exactly what I would have gotten if I had ordered, but it was close. It has almost every option offered for that model and was in pristine condition. And it was a local trade-in.
I compared what they wanted for it with what a 2022 brand new model would be with everything I originally wanted. My upgraded car was about the same price as their base price for a new similar model.
And I got a great price on my old 24-year-old trade in.

I have not purchased recently, nor have an interest in updating either of our vehicles. However, every time we take our Toyotas in for regular service, we are approached by a salesman with an offer to buy our vehicles.
I bought my 2013 Highlander shortly after I retired for about $42,000. It has 42,000 miles, and when I had new tires put on yesterday, a salesman offered me $38,000 for it. He went on and on with how it would be a perfect vehicle for someone looking for a gently used car, to which I replied that it is a perfectly good car for me, who refuses to have a monthly payment!

I'd totally buy a good used car.
But then, I've never had a new car in my life, so......

Haven't purchased either in many years, but I have been interested in any topic "cars" most of my life.
Right now, used cars are at a premium, and many new cars are "you take what you can get". That along with "negotiating a price"? If new, expect MSRP, or likely even higher.
You could never compare Used to New, that is apples to oranges. You either wanted a used vehicle, or you wanted a new one. It depended on how many $$$$ you wanted to spend, and the purpose and use of another vehicle.
Used to have many options, now? Very few, if any, be it new or used. And they say that the EV is the future! Have an encyclopedia sized novela I could say about that.
Probably not much help answering your question, but! Were we in the market for another vehicle? I would contact a few of my friends that are in that industry, in one capacity, or another.

@millieshops wrote:@AngelPuppy1 Everything I read tells me car prices have gone up significantly. I believe that's a reason I am getting multiple orders from dealers to buy out my 2021 lease which still has almost a year and a half to go.
@AngelPuppy1 I decided to purchase my leased car last April. I was 2 months away from the end. There was absolutely no inventory to chose from on the car lots if I did decide to get a new car. The few they had were much too expensive. I can't tell you how many dealerships wanted to take my car on trade or purchase outright even after I bought it.
It is a 2019 Honda Civic with 22,000 miles on it. I figure it has a lot of life left in it so It was the right decision for me. I checked Kelly Blue book for an approximate valuation today. It is selling for more than it originally cost in 2019. Glad I held onto it.

We just purchased a new Rav4 Hybrid in July. We received it in September. That seems to be the wait time for new cars that are not basic. We got a very good deal on our new car. We had purchased 2 other cars from this dealership so they knew us and gave us a deal because of our loyalty to them. Very pleased with the car also.

@zitawins wrote:I always lease my cars, but this year I decided to buy the vehicle because the lease was ending soon. Happy to say we got a very good buyout price for my Honda HRV. My daughter and I share the car because I don't drive a lot and she works remotely. It's a win/win situation for us. She got a good deal from Wings credit union on the loan.
I, too, was bombarded with offeers from Honda to buy my leased car and trade up to another. No thanks! don't need a bigger car with higher payments.
@zitawins I also lease a Honda HRV and the lease will be up next August. I had to bring it in for service recently and texted with the saleswoman that I had used when I got the car.
I'm thinking of just buying the car but first I will go in to speak with her in the spring about maybe leasing a new one....depending on the cost and what I can get. From what I understand it could take several months to get the car. However just buying what I have is also an option.

I love the look of the Buick Encore! I admire them every time I see one. So, I am guessing you are a fan of them, too since you got a second one. I would love to have one but don't know if I can afford one, especially now with the way prices have gone up.

Your car looks lovely! I see the commercials for Carmax but I never really thought they seemed reputable, but they certainly seemed to have worked for you!
