I haven't read every response, so hope I'm not duplicating. It's not just the antibiotics that are a problem. Many many other drugs are disappearing, even cancer chemotherapy. The Reader's Digest has an article this month.

But I also fear the cardiac possibilities. Two of my brothers had heart attacks before age 50, my mother died of one very young, and I am on medicine to prevent one (which has always worked, so far). So jolting the old ticker is not on my list of desirable activities.
There isn't enough air in the medication chamber to hurt you. Just a few bubbles maybe. Teeny, tiny, bubbles!
They wouldn't let the average person have the stuff in that delivery system if it was that dangerous!!

That's correct. I used to freak out when I would see air bubbles in my dd's IV lines. A little bit of air won't hurt you.

Agreed. I use the injectable triptans and DHE for migraines, and I have to keep epinephrine injections on hand for my severe shellfish allergy. They're safe, even for squeamish non-professionals like me, and can be life savers.

dooBdoo: Allergy question: Do you have to carry the injections with you everywhere? Do they have to stay cold? Scary stuff.

Hi, sidsmom. My last reaction was a fairly serious one, so I keep them pretty much close at hand (especially if I'm not close to medical centers). My DH was a physician and he was really insistent about it. It's true, the reaction is scary. The EpiPens aren't terribly large, and they're kept at room temperature.

This problem isn't getting the kind of news coverage it should get. People know more about the topic of Beyonce's sister or the Kardashians than this topic.
