Thanks, hyacinth. My fear is it would go into a vein by accident.

But I also fear the cardiac possibilities. Two of my brothers had heart attacks before age 50, my mother died of one very young, and I am on medicine to prevent one (which has always worked, so far). So jolting the old ticker is not on my list of desirable activities.

There isn't enough air in the medication chamber to hurt you. Just a few bubbles maybe. Teeny, tiny, bubbles!

They wouldn't let the average person have the stuff in that delivery system if it was that dangerous!!

Thanks, hyacinth, I will think of your post next time I get bitten by a fire ant or inadventently eat a banana, which of course is hard to do. (Usually a banana is pretty visible). I have had near lethal reactions to both.

I don't think the OP wrote the article.

No, of course not.

So why are you looking for her to keep you updated about this problem?

I don't believe this problem is apocalyptic and could have said that without the snark. My apologies to her.

The problem is far more in depth than that. What about all the antibiotics injected into our food, not to mention the antibiotics getting into our water supply?

The fact of the matter is, millions of people across the globe have surgery every day, including elective surgery; not only in hospitals but in outpatient clinics and surgical centers. I have not read or heard of mass casualties yet from infection but trust that the OP will inform me and others when it happens.

Actually in the US about 100,000 people a year die from infections they got while in the hospital after surgery. These are people who were healthy and otherwise wouldn't have been operated on.

These may have been preventable deaths.

It could be a simple thing as people not doing the basics like washing their hands. I do not understand how a person can walk out of a bathroom without washing their hands.

Actually hospitals are breeding grounds of infections, there are all kinds of staph and MRSA infections and other super bugs lingering there. You are safer to go home if you can.

I know I am not disagreeing.

Not really preventable for those with auto-immune problems. They get them out ASAP.

And you just said in more volume what I meant as preventable. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

" . . . and the meek shall inherit the earth." I'm not a bible expert, but I do believe this came from the bible.

To me it seems significant in this dilemma we now face. We are our own worst enemy. Antibiotics worked for killing bacteria . . . so we had to go and put it into everything we eat, drink . . . and prescribe it for every illness, until we rendered it useless. It's always "more" with human beings. "More" is always better . . . until it's not.

The "bugs" fought it off and got stronger. They outnumber us by inconceivable numbers, and although invisible and microscopic in nature, they may wind up owning the earth.

I wanted to add that I have posted quite a few times, both in VP and in Health and Wellness that the reason I will not take biologics for my RA is because their number one side effect is infection, both at the site of the infusion, and within the body. And it is not "rare."

Since I don't have much of an immune system, it's the infection that would do me in, not the other possibilities which are supposed to be "rare," such as cancer, TB, MS, diabetes, heart, etc. As I have said, I would take my chances with those, but I won't take the chance of getting an infection I know my body and no antibiotic could fight.

This is all the more proof that I'm making the right decision for me.

Yes, supplements and herbs can be a problem. I overheard a distinguished doctor talking to another patient when I was visiting a friend a few years ago. Anyway, It's a science, combining them, etc. for thousands of years. Better to go to a specialist who knows what he/she is doing regarding herbs/supplements. Long term, they can be a real problem.

one of the biggest reasons we're in this mess is because of the FDA. The U.S. is the largest source of great drugs, but the FDA changed the testing protocol to make it not only more costly to test a drug but to even find the test subjects to begin with. There was even talk about using people who have NEVER used an antibiotic in their lifetime. Oh yeah, that would be easy. Not.

Like any bureaucratic pile of crud though, they change at the speed of molasses in January.

“We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection.

I think PBS's Frontline program is highlighting this problem in an upcoming episode, of course now I can't find the trailer.

Thanks for this, it's on Tuesday May 6th at 9 pm, I set my DVR.

I watched it. Twice.

The word nightmare is bandied about too much. But this is the real thing.
