I heard years ago that the retirement future funding requirement set by Congress is one of the biggest problems.
It seemed to be the start of the USPS downfall. It was a big controversy for a while, now you don't hear anything about it. If I remember correctly (and I might not), they had to fund 75 years in advance, which is ridiculous. It's almost like they want the post office to fail.

Not so much the increase that rankles, but the overall price. Aggregate that to what one will pay for a book or, assuming one can swing it, for a roll of stamps. Regardless of the postal services costs, stamp prices add up for the consumer, especially when considering how often they go up and how much they've gone up over time.

I still use the mail often. i have several older friends that are not tech savy and like to get thinking of you card and little gifts in the mail. I also have a few friends with little ones that are thrilled to get a card in the mail addresses to them. I also still send hand written thank you notes.

I guess I'm one of the few who still mails cards for every holiday. I think of stamps as added decorations to my envelopes therefore I purchase many themed stamps.
As far as the cost of a stamp, I think it is the best deal in the market. Think about it, a first class stamp on an envelope will deliver a card anywhere in the U.S. It leaves your area and moves across the country by air and then hand delivered by a USPS carrier. All for less than a dollar. Amazing. I appreciate the service of the USPS!

This will not affect me. I pay everything online and rarely need a stamp. Perhaps if I am mailing a card, it is the only thing I can think of.

I agree about it being a great deal @nascarfan

Deep sigh. I am loaded with forever stamps. I can see why do they do this. I know it is a shock to us, especially if you remember paying 2 cents. Or my parents paying rather. If you think about it, so much business has been taken away with computers and such. Yet they still have pay their employees who work like dogs a decent salary and benefits. I guess 75 cents or so is not huge to send a letter across country. I don't like it, and recent that all the rise in costs seems to come from EVERY BUSINESS. all at once.

I heard this the other day. I am going to get another roll of stamps before they go up. I am old school - I do send things by mail. I get that probably a lot or most people don't believe in doing bills or cards this way any more. But there are those of us who still do. I have cut down on sending a lot of cards out. It's not the cards that are expensive -- although if you want to send a special one, it is -- but it's the postage that adds up. I no longer send cards to many people for every occasion because of the rising cost of postage. The only time now that I send a good many cards is Christmas. As always, there are different views here, as we are all different and have different ways of looking at things. I don't think people should be criticized here for expressing their opinions as long as they do it in a respectful way.

@bikerbabe Or by boat...
I seem to use the most stamps most often for charity donations who rarely send a prepaid envelope. It is still cheaper for most as some charge a CC fee of $3.00. I wtite a check.
Unfortunately, my name and address is sold or shared so I receive a ton of junk mail for every charity under the sun. It is rare I have a no mail day.
Sending five Five Easter cards. Two people are pretty much shut ins and two are children who enjoy a card and money gift.
My hairdresser yesterday told me they are increasing their haircuts $5.00. It all adds up.😅
