@monicakm wrote:My husband chose to wait till he was 66 1/2 to start drawing SS so he could draw more money. That time is this month. He has not gotten a check. We called the local office we went to to file. There is NO documents that he filed
He can't come into the office to refile and has to do a phone call, wait for it...on JULY 26th!!!!!!! Agent didn't know how long it would take after that for him to start receiving his money. What in the world???
Did he receive a confirmation email from SS after he was online? Maybe there was an error or maybe he didn't finish.
SS offices are jammed with appointments. He's probably lucky to get a July appointment.
Did he try calling? When I was my sister's conservator, I was able to do a lot by phone. Be prepared to wait on hold.
He should have followed up before the last minute.

I did all my Medicare and SS work online. It was very easy and I had to click on some button to finalize. I immediately received an email saying the application was received. A week or so later, I received a letter telling me how much and when payments would begin.

It sounds like people's experiences with SS are all hit and miss. Mine have been a nightmare each and every time. The initial people on the phone are worthless, frankly, with misinformation but usually once I get past them to the person on the phone who will deal with the subject at hand they are fabulous...for the most part.
I, too, had someone just not submit it. I could see online that the progress had stopped so called and called. Finally got a response. My gal admitted she had dropped the ball with an oops! And then they completed it.
I would go ahead and get your husband's account onliine set up, @monicakm , and go ahead and apply online. But still keep your appointment for a status check.

To add, my last dealings were when my husband passed away. When I called the initial gal first of all was appalled that I would have the audacity to request survivor benefits and then informed me I wouldn't get them. I said ok and made my phone appointment.
Needless to say she was completely wrong and the woman I dealt with for the interview was fabulous but I am so used to those initial people being wrong I didn't even get upset about it.
