@Carmie

He filed in person.  He's such a kind and helpful person to everyone.  He takes after both his parents.  He has a "servant's heart".  And I know that has absolutely nothing to do with his SS woes but it just makes me feel that much worse for him.

Thank you @50Mickey   I was with him.  I will do as you suggested and go to SSA.Gov to see if I can find out what's going on.

Since SS admin claims he didn't file and will be filing now at 66 and 7 months, should he be getting more than originally quoted?  I feel so sorry for him.

If not they should give him the checks he would have missed by the mistake if that makes sense.  Make sure he keeps some paperwork after he files again.

@monicakm Each month delayed he will receive more...so maybe that's something good which will come out of this.

Why does he have to wait until July 26 for a phone call application?  Can't he file online? If indeed the application that he filed this month was never registered then he will have to start over. It seems like it would be easier and faster to do this online and you will then have documentation that it was filed. This is the important date. Also he will be notified what additional information if any that they need in order to complete the process.

If he begins SS in June, he won't get a check unitl July, but he should've gotten some correspondence from them via snail mail.

Didn't he file for Medicare when he turned 65?  I remember you going through that a few months ago.  If so, he has to have a SS account since you start that process via Social Security.  I've had a Social Security account for ages.  Every year I would get a letter from them telling me to go and make sure all my earnings info is correct.

We did it at the SS office and spent over an hour with the agent who filled out the paper work.  I called the same local SS location today and was told he never filed.

@monicakm.  Suggest you call your congressman.  It's on them if you went in person and their rep did the paperwork.

I'd wait and speak with them directly.  When I applied there was a "glitch" I did the phone call.  They took care of it immediately I received my monthly check and a additional back payment all within a few weeks.

Good luck @monicakm

Apparently, our local office is NOT top notch.  We were there for over an hour.  I could pick her out of a line up.  She seemed very detailed in all her questions and info taken.  I don't remember what we got from her but if we were given anything, I know where it would be.  And I can't believe he has to wait for a phone appt till July 26th.  This feels surreal Smiley Sad

I would just personally go to the office, even without an appointment, and confront the person you worked with.  Surely she willl recognize you.  She might just move your case to the top of the pile.  Tell them that this situation that they created is a hardship and unacceptable.

I hope you get this straightened out.  I never would have left the SS office without paperwork confirmation of my application and the name of the person I spoke with.
