Since SS admin claims he didn't file and will be filing now at 66 and 7 months, should he be getting more than originally quoted?  I feel so sorry for him.

My husband chose to wait till he was 66 1/2 to start drawing SS so he could draw more money.  That time is this month.  He has not gotten a check.  We called the local office we went to to file.  There is NO documents that he filed Smiley Surprised  He can't come into the office to refile and has to do a phone call, wait for it...on JULY 26th!!!!!!!  Agent didn't know how long it would take after that for him to start receiving his money.  What in the world???

@monicakm  Did you go into the SS office and have a in person interview and they have no record of this? This is strange.  Usually you are given a receipt or an acknowledgement of the application.  I am pretty sure that I did a phone call interview when I applied. Everything was straight forward no problems at all. I turned 62 in April, the first month that I was eligible for was July and my first payment was issued in August. The Social Security office where I used to live was top notch. Everything ran smoothly as long as yo have all of the documents that they need.

@monicakm   When you left the S.S. office you didn't get a printout or email about the result of your visit??  That's what I received when I established my acct status and start of payouts.  It had contact info on there about who to contact if I had any questions and/or concerns or needed more info.  I kept that paperwork until my first check was received.

@monicakm  Not sure about that but you seem pretty savvy with internet, etc. so go to ssa.gov.  Set up an online account. You should be able to view any information there about filing status.  Keep us updated!

I'm so mad about this I could spit Smiley Sad but I'm mostly sad for my husband.  He has a very physically demanding job but he was willing to wait the extra time to raise his income amt.  If this didn't get done, it's the fault of the agent we spent over an hour with.

I am sorry for your dilemma but I would go to ssa.gov and check his status. You will then know if it has been processed, if not apply online. It is easy and you get a confirmation. No need to fret just do it now online. It is always a hassle.

I did my application on line and when my husband's turn came up..I did his too. I even filled out paper work to have federal taxes taken out and the money put right into our bank account.

My husband had to pay his Medicare Part B  out of pocket because he didn't collect SS until he was 66.  I set that up to come out of his checking account monthly.  If you pay for Medicare with a paper check, they bill you quarterly.

I never went into the SS office. It was easy and there were no issues.

My mother who turned 62 back in the 80's waited almost a year before SS got her first check to her.  I kept calling, but was told there was a backlog and she'd have to wait.

My parents owned a business and had money, but what if they didn't?  That's a long time to go without a check.

After receiving her first SS check, she passed away three months later.

They did pay her eight months worth on the first check.  Things are better and faster now.

@monicakm   Did your husband file on line or in person?

If your husband filed in June, the first month that he is eligible for benefits is July. This payment is made in August. I would not wait until July 26 to inquire about his application. As others have suggested go to SSA.Gov and set up an account. You should be able to see what is going on. It seems strange that the employee didn't file the application. Maybe they are saying that it has not been approved and they need further documents.

If you were with him when he filed he probably had folder with a lot of paper work and documents that he brought into the office.  Maybe you put the application acknowledgement in the file with this information.

I waited as well (same age as your hubby), and filed online. I received an email right away stating they received my claim and would begin to process it. The email said that they would probably need a phone call to clarify an issue. I did get the call about 2 weeks later. They did indeed have to the date on one job. The person I spoke with said that all was in order and I would be getting my check (direct deposit for me) the following month. So I also had to wait. I hope it works out easily for your hubby.

@50Mickey

Apparently, our local office is NOT top notch.  We were there for over an hour.  I could pick her out of a line up.  She seemed very detailed in all her questions and info taken.  I don't remember what we got from her but if we were given anything, I know where it would be.  And I can't believe he has to wait for a phone appt till July 26th.  This feels surreal Smiley Sad
