Re: Poldark- who's watching?

dulwich, I love your name Smiley Happy   Most of my heritage is Welsh, which also has many, as I am sure you know, names that spell nothing like they sound, lol.

I love the information you provided!  When you mention the City of London, do you mean the London within the larger London?  I saw a great video explaining that awhile back.

OK, I am getting lost Smiley Happy  I have been to London and loved it!

Re: Poldark- who's watching?

So NoelSeven is that a Welsh dragon on your name?  My father was Welsh from the Rhonda Valley in S. Wales - have you been to Wales?  I spent from ages 2years to 10 years in  Wales - still have lots of family there and my oldest girlfriend who I started school with still living in the same street, the same village, same house her parents lived in / love going back there.  Love the game of rugger and love the Welsh language which we were taught in primary school.  No city of London means now I guess the whole area.  Just to add to this mess of me my mother was from southern Ireland - not part of England it is independent and I still have family there!  Wales is lovely.

Have you seen the video of Boys Aloud, the choir from Rhonda?  OMG, the are wonderful!  I'll look for the url in case someone wants to see...

I'm so glad you learned some of the language in school, there was a time when that didn't happen.

Were you aware of the movement Paint The Signs Green?  To replace signs with the original Welsh.  There were many of us in America supporting the take back the language movement in Wales, and Channel 4.

Re: Poldark- who's watching?

NoelSeven - I did know about the signs and they are indeed now displayed in Welsh and English - did not realize support came from U.S. They are trying to do same in Cornwall - but not so much success as in Wales.

your video made me cry!  Thank you for this.  My father and his 5 brothers all sang in choirs so I grew up with lots of singing.  My mother - being Irish - hated Wales so eventually we moved back to London but to me it was home.  I was born in London.  I expect you know about the Welsh, Irish, Scots, English all feuding and fighting - all to do with religion and it really does exist - very silly.  Loved the video, again thank you.

dulwich, we have several things in common Smiley Happy  My mother was also Irish, Cornish from her grandmother.  My father's heritage was 100% Welsh from what we know.

The Welsh in America kept their heritage going.  My father, born here, spoke Welsh, I learned some and have passed on the basics to my daughter.  We also kept the Welsh choirs going here, and the Gymanfa Ganu, and an Eisteddfod here and there.

On St. David's Day, my daughter and I make Welsh cakes.  Sometimes I make Bara Brith at Christmas time.

You are welcome for the video, I still cry every time I see it.

Diolch for this conversation Smiley Happy
